Publisher's Summary

On a cold and rainy Stockholm night, nine bus riders are gunned down by an unknown assassin. The press, anxious for an explanation for the seemingly random crime, quickly dubs him a madman. But Superintendent Martin Beck of the Stockholm Homicide Squad suspects otherwise. This apparently motiveless killer has managed to target one of Beck's best detectives - and he, surely, would not have been riding that lethal bus without a reason.

Fast moving and easy to listen to

Where does The Laughing Policeman rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Amongst the top ten

What did you like best about this story?

A seemingly unfathomable mystery is gradually solved by painstaking police work with contributions from a team of individuals with very different personalities who bring their own slant on life into the equation. The portrayal of life in Sweden in the 1960's is also interesting in its perceptions.

What does Tom Weiner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The variety of accents and intonations help depict the different characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

I have enjoyed several Martin Beck books as they have clarity and excellent character depictions.

Quality crime fiction

Not as good as other books in series but still superior to crime novels.

Good narration.
