Publisher's Summary

Narrated by acclaimed British actor Edward Petherbridge, The Last Moriarty is set in London, 1895. On a cold November morning, a young American actress visits 221B Baker Street, desperate for Sherlock Holmes to protect her from the threats of a mysterious, menacing man who has recently appeared in her life. Holmes agrees to help, even though he has just promised the Prime Minister to solve the murder of John D. Rockefeller's security agent before the incident can derail an upcoming British-American summit. To find the agent's killer - and help the young actress - Holmes will need all his talents for both deduction and deception. But when another lovely woman, this one from Holmes's past, reappears and clues to the murder point to the late Professor Moriarty, the famously analytical detective must also look inward. Can Holmes prevent chaos on both sides of the Atlantic and unmask his newest client's shadowy antagonist? For Holmes and Watson, this is the case that will change everything. Revised edition: This edition of The Last Moriarty includes editorial revisions.

Starts well enough, ends like a bad action movie

I like the writers general tone and ability to create the feel of a genuine Holmes story, but he was very slow paced in the beginning and had a silly action climax right out of grade B melodrama. The reader was good, though he was a slow speaker which took a little getting used to.

Perfect narrator, great story!

The author has done a marvelous job of writing in the style of Conan Doyle, and the story drew me in until the very end. Edward Petherbridge is such a good narrator, wish there were more available.

What? Who?

Oh yes, It is Shirlock Holmes, back to us from another author. Good story, a couple of new characters, and " A BIG SURPRISE! Being a big Shirlock fan, anyone who gives me more to read I will try. I am glad I did read this one. Good reader who sounds right in his parts. If you are a purist ...don't bother!

Effortlessly excellent narrator

Where does The Last Moriarty rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

For Sherlock Holmes stories, narrators tend to be either bombastic or to gallop through the story as though they are in a race. Instead, Charles Velev gives each character an individual voice and gives Watson a nuanced range of emotions, so it is easy to relax and get completely into the story. I hope Mr. Velev will narrate many more books and stories. Thank you also to the book's audiobook producers who made a high-quality audiobook.

Great Sherlockian masterpiece!

loved this book and the narrator nailed a very good interpretation of Holmes that reminded me of actor Jeremy Bret's BBC version.

Audible what?

What disappointed you about The Last Moriarty?

Not the book - I was just reading it. Then I see a charge for Audible & I didn't ever order or listen to the audible book. Not sure how I get charged for it...
