Publisher's Summary

When retired senior CIA analyst Rico Perris plunges off a cliff in his vintage Porsche while speeding through the mountains of Colorado late one snowy night, the local sheriff rules it an accident. CIA officials, however, suspect otherwise. Their suspicions are soon heightened after two other former intelligence analysts turn up dead under questionable circumstances. All three victims were once assigned to the same top-secret project: an internal review of the CIA's long-rumored involvement in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Now, with a Congressional mandate about to go into effect compelling the CIA to release long-secret files relating to the assassination, there is growing concern that a shrewd and ruthless killer is on the loose, one who will stop at nothing to prevent the public from discovering the truth of what happened that tragic day in Dallas in November, 1963.

Veteran pilot, aspiring Buddhist, and ex-government assassin Cordell Logan has little interest in helping his former comrade-in-arms, Buzz, who still works in the intelligence community, investigate what looks increasingly like a vexing conspiracy. Content to operate his small civilian flight school in the swanky seaside resort of Rancho Bonita, California, Logan would just as soon be left alone - that is, until Buzz introduces him to Layne Sterling, a brilliant and beautiful CIA agent assigned to the case. Logan is instantly drawn to her. Working together while pretending to ignore their simmering mutual attraction, they soon find themselves caught up in a high-stakes, high-altitude cat-and-mouse game, one that in the end could destroy them both.

This is the sixth offering in a series of mystery-thrillers that has earned Cordell Logan and author David Freed a legion of loyal listeners and critics alike.

Logan Cordell for danger and sarcasm!!

This is a very suspenseful Logan Cordell book. He's approached by a woman from the CIA with a request from Logan"s old friend Buzz to work alongside of her on an investigation.
This story could be taken right out of today's headlines as it deals with the release of the JFK files. The town of Angel Falls where an ex CIA employee had lived and either died in an accident or was murdered. This is where Logan and his new partner go. The death was ruled an accident but there's something that just isn't right. Not only does the sheriff seem to be hiding something about the murder but he's been under investigation for embezzling money from the Boy Scouts. But did he do it? Meanwhile, Logan and his temporary partner Lane Sterling begin to develop feelings for each other. Maybe Logan will finally get over his ex wife. Meanwhile the local cardiologist seems to be falling for Logan.
There are not a lot of twists in the book, just a lot of situations and even more sarcasm. Logan falls through a frozen lake, gets caught in an avalanche and a few others.
The final chapters are where the unlikely villain is revealed and that is a twist I have to admit I only had a slight suspicion of.
The moral of this story is: Be careful when you write a bad book review, especially if the author lives close to you.
Ray Porter does a fantastic job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Score!

Even though I figured out the bad guy about halfway through, I liked this book. Even more, I liked the ending and the promise it held for stories to come. This is a great series!

Love the series, this may be the best Logan book!

I fell in love with the mix of real world feel, relatable consequences and compelling sarcasm. Not to mention the spot on narration by Ray Porter. Not sure if I fall more in move with Logan or Porter during each novel. Please bring the next one on soon! Audible 20 Review Sweepstakes Entry

Great story and amazing performance by Ray Porter

It took me all of 2 days to listen to this whole book (thanks, traffic!) and I definitely wasn't disappointed! David Freed continues to write witty and sarcastic phrases in a way that few other authors can, all while building up suspense to the final "ah-ha" moment. And, as always, Ray Porter gave a flawless performance.

This series has yet to disappoint. The character development continues while drawing the listener into the storyline.
