Publisher's Summary

Natalie Taylor, high priestess of the coven in quirky Giles, Massachusetts, just wants to stop seeing dead people. With all the elements needed for the spell now in place, she can finally complete the ritual to push the ghosts away.

But when a body is found in Corey Woods, giving her the opportunity to prove that her long-lost love wasn't guilty of the identical murders years ago, some of the answers she needs to clear him lie on the far side of the veil. She's going to need help from both the living and the dead to catch the real killer.

Who Done It.

This was the first book i have read by this author. The book was fantastic. It is about 3 witches, the maid, mother and the crone. When a murder happens that is similar to others that happened years ago, Natalie Taylor works to prove her old love, William was not guilty of the previous murders. After all, he went missing year ago and is now returned as a ghost. Come along and find out if Natalie, William(the ghost) and friends can prove he is innocent by finding the real killer. The narrator was great. I usually like female narrators for types of books but Brian was fantastic. He did a great job with the voice. I really loved the Natalie voice. I look forward to the next book I received this book free from the author, narrator for a honest opinion. This book did not disappoint.

Cute and Cozy!

Paranormal books are a little outside my preferred genre, but I found this one to be a very enjoyable listen. I was captivated from the very beginning. I loved the quirky characters. The story is full of magic and surprises. I thought the narrator did a good job with the various characters and was able to perform distinguishable voices. The story has great imagery and is a standalone listen, and part of a series. I requested a review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I would continue to listen to more books by both the author and narrator.

A humorous murder mystery?

Somehow this murder mystery manages to be humorous... well, not all the time, but most of it.

I quirky cast of characters with strong personalities makes for some very funny moments throughout the book. The ghost elements are both tragic and sometimes funny.

The mystery is well designed, not too obvious and not too hard to figure out.

The story is engaging and fun to listen to with the narration a good match for the book. The character voices were very well done.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Great Book!

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. The narrator did a wonderful job with this book. He did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end. If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.

Very entertaining and enjoyable cozy mystery

This was just a really fun listen. If you enjoy paranormal cozy mystery's this is a really good one and worth your time. It's very entertaining, engaging and enjoyable with a great storyline, a really good mystery and a unique cast of quirky characters.

When there is murder, mystery, magic and Witch's involved you know things are bound to get interesting as well as a bit strange.

Even though this is the first book in this series, it's a spin off from another series by the author so these characters are already established. That didn't really make a difference to me. I had no problem keeping track of the characters and their relationship to each other. I really enjoyed how well developed each character was. They all different ages with distinct personalities. Even a ghost and cat. They are not your typical "cookie cutter" type characters. Which just added to the overall enjoyment of the story.

Even though this is part of a series it can also be listened to as a standalone story. I do think I would have enjoyed this story even more if I had read the previous series. I also enjoyed this story and the characters enough that I will go back and read the previous series.

Has a killer returned to familiar ground? This is the mystery that Natalie, Cassie and Gillian need to solve before anyone else is murdered.

Hopefully the rest of the series will be available on Audible soon.

Brian Callanan did a fantastic job with the narration. Choosing a male narrator to do a book that has mostly female main characters is an interesting choice. But it turned out to be the perfect one. His narration pulls you right into the story from the start. Great character voices. All of them both male and female. Each character had a distinct voice. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Perfect tone and delivery for each of the different characters and situations. He brought the characters, their emotions and the story to life. Hopefully he will be narrating the rest of the series.

Great fantasy with witches, ghosts, and murder!

The Innocent Dead
A Witch Cozy Mystery
By: Jill Nojack
Narrated by: Brian Callanan
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
This was a different kind of murder mystery. The fist one killed is a very annoying woman in town and I wanted to kill here! But soon many are killed. Soon it is clear it is a serial killer. Is is from years ago and new one. Many believed it was the killer that 'got away' before that came back and started killing again. But there someone in the town that knows better, the witch that loved the person accused of being the killer. He was killed also by the killer and is a ghost. She can see him and now she that she is old and can't wait to be with him again. There are lots of twists and turns, clues, great characters, and I always guess wrong...I would be a horrible detective! Something magic but good/sad(?) happens when the witch gets attacked...no spoilers here. Good story and mystery.
The narrator was great about doing all these voices and keeping the story flowing wonderfully! He does the annoying lady too good! LOL Great performance.

Stalked in a Small Town

Since this was the first book of the series, I was a bit confused when I started in with a pile of characters who clearly knew each other in a very familiar way. It wasn't until I finished the book that I learned that this series is a spin-off of another. But once you are past the first chapter or two, all of the relationships fall neatly into place and you will have no trouble matching individuals. Of course it helps that narrator Brian Callanan did a superb job with differentiating voices ranging from American to British to Boston. Why yes, for many Boston is a distinct dialect (although we were not treated to "paaaahking the caaaah"--much more subtle inflections). I pride myself on picking up enough of the clues to have narrowed down the Suspects, but needed the final denouement to ensure that I had made the right selection. But we are talking paranormal here, with witches and ghost adding a few twists of Their Own, enhancing this delightful tale.

Ghosts, Witches, And Kittens Oh My!

Ghosts, Witches, And Kittens Oh My!

The Innocent Dead is a Cozy Mystery and #1 in The Maid, Mother, and Crone Series by Jill Nojack.

Read by Brian Callanan

HFN Ending

This series is a spin-off of the Bad Tom Series.
You get a temporary ending point, but the overall story arc continues.
My philosophy is ALWAYS to read a series in order! :-).

Length: 6 hrs and 56 mins

Content Advisory:
There are some mild sex references and scenes, but not much and no "C" words were used.

♥ Story ♥
The Innocent Dead hits the ground running, and almost leaves those of us who have not read the previous series behind. It took me a while to aclimate to this title, but once I caught on, I didn't want to let go!

The series focuses on the triad of Maid, Mother, and Crone. Don't assume elder witch Natalie is the crone, because she will be more than happy to tell you why you are wrong. The ladies of the story all come with their own strengths and weaknesses, but each one is just as endearing. There is also potential fresh blood being introduced.

This story has a mystery at it's heart, and it is an adventure to figure out. A murderer from the past is killing again, but the one they are blaming has been missing for several decades. Lucky for them, Natalie sees dead people, quite litereally. But how do you explain that to a skeptic Sherriff? Seriously, they need to get that guy a girlfriend.

It's entertaining, heartwarming, and all magical. I want to read the Bad Tom series now. Hopefully that will come to audio in the near future. I will definately be listening to the rest of this series.

Brian has 21 Audio titles.

The Innocent Dead

I LOVED this book!I listened to it straight through, all day long.A fresh murder in a witchy town harkens back to decades old murders.Who is both old and new to town?Everyone!I am looking forward to the next in the series!Brian Callahan is a good narrator, though Natalies voice was a bit shrill at times.“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”
