Publisher's summary

Set in the same dark world as his beloved novel The Last Child, John Hart delivers a stunning vision of a secret world - rarely seen - in this unforgettable audiobook.

It's been 10 years since the events that changed Johnny Merrimon's life and rocked his hometown to the core. Since then, Johnny has fought to maintain his privacy, but books have been written of his exploits; he has fans, groupies. Living alone in the wilderness beyond town, Johnny's only connection to normal life is his old friend, Jack. They're not boys anymore, but the bonds remain. What they shared. What they lost.

But Jack sees danger in the wild places Johnny calls home; he senses darkness and hunger, an intractable intent. Johnny will discuss none of it, but there are the things he knows, the things he can do. A lesser friend might accept such abilities as a gift, but Jack has felt what moves in the swamp: the cold of it, the unspeakable fear.

Building on the world first glimpsed in The Last Child, The Hush is more than an exploration of friendship, persistence, and forgotten power. It takes the listener to unexpected places and reminds us all why John Hart, after five consecutive New York Times best sellers, still warrants acclaim.

Critic reviews

"The story is greatly enhanced by narrator Jeremy Bobb. No character is too small for Bobb's vocal attention.... A great example of a riveting story enhanced by a creative, consistent narration." (AudioFile Magazine)

I liked it.

I liked it and wanted to keep learning more but it did turn into more of a fantasy than I expected.

A Departure

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this audiobook like I'd recommend all John Hart's books. It was different but I loved the African folklore.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I normally listen to audiobooks in the car. I made excuses to go places or took the long way to my destination to have more time to listen to this book.

Have you listened to any of Jeremy Bobb’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never listened to Jeremy Bobb before. I liked his narration.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This book was like coming home to old friends. I loved The Last Child so I was happy to step into the lives of Johnny, Jack and Chet.

Any additional comments?

Different from the other John Hart books but just as good.

Spooky and good.

Good but confusing at first. Stick with it and you will be glad you did.

Excellent Book!!

I couldn’t put it down...typical John Hart novel! I highly recommend you read The Last Child first- it’s not necessary but totally worth your time. 5 stars...hands down!

Best book yet!

I did not think John Hart could top his prior works but he has done it. This story never stops and is rich with character and plot surprises. Absolutely loved it! Waiting patiently for the next book by Mr Hart.....

Love this author

I fell in love with the characters from this book in his previous book, and was not disappointed. The author has a way of describing things that almost feels artistic. Great story, will definitely check out more of his.
