Publisher's Summary

Bestselling authors Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke make their suspense debut in this twisty, emotional thriller.

Elementary school teacher Jacqueline "Jacks" Morales's marriage was far from perfect, but even in its ups and downs it was predictable, familiar. Or at least she thought it was...until two police officers showed up at her door with devastating news. Her husband of eight years, the one who should have been on a business trip to Kansas, had suffered a fatal car accident in Hawaii. And he wasn't alone.

For Jacks, laying her husband to rest was hard. But it was even harder to think that his final moments belonged to another woman - one who had left behind her own grieving and bewildered fiancé. Nick, just as blindsided by the affair, wants answers. So he suggests that he and Jacks search for the truth together, retracing the doomed lovers' last days in paradise.

Now, following the twisting path of that fateful road, Jacks is learning that nothing is ever as it seems. Not her marriage. Not her husband. And most certainly not his death...

Great Read

Interesting story line. Characters were well developed and the story was fast paced. A new author for me to follow.

Dirge For A Marriage

This book was a big disappointment. The story was tedious and uninspired.

It's SLOW. It's tedious. It's over 9 hours of mostly drawn out moaning examination of a failed marriage and affair. The mystery part is maybe 10% of the book and I guessed the "mystery" reveal coming about 10% into the book. There is nothing redeeming about this book. Save yourself a credit.

The narration was fine, which is part of the reason I gave it overall 3 stars.

If you watch Lifetime, this is for you

I don't. This is well written and performed, but I just don't care enough about the story to actually finish it.

Great story!

Some predictability but kept you interested wondering what happened. And just when you think it's over and wrapped up in a bow, it's not!

great twist 🖒

Was a good story. wow 😨 the tangle webs we weave! I felt so badly for Jacks. we do hurt the ones we love most. And I didn't see that coming. Great twist.... Definitely worth a listen. Really , my only issue with the book was the NARRATOR 😨 was horrible!!!!!....I was ready to stop listening. And was gonna delete it ...but once I got passed her horrible narration....and kept my focus on the story it was better. It's too bad when that happens.....great book horrible narrator, can really go against the outcome of the book.

Clichéd but worth the read

Once upon a time in the beginning things were wonderful. Then what was interesting before now gets on your nerves. Then you live in misery and SURPRISE start cheating. BLAH BLAH BLAH.

boring. nothing really happened

I thought this would be a mystery. The only mystery was how the narrator didn't fall asleep. She was very good.

Unbelievable characters, drippy main

Hugely disappointing. Unbelievable and whiny love story for a grade three reader. Phrases like ‘put my heart on a shelf’ come from the men and annoying pet names throughout. I can’t imagine who lives in this writer’s world but I hope I never meet them. Not even an original ending. Don’t buy, move on.

"Enjoyable"

Picture the scenario you are married to the man of your dreams all seems rosy until you reveal a secret that festers, you have an argument & never see him again. I am trying not to give the story away but this also affects someone else who turns up on your doorstep and he is not all he seems on the surface.

This book describes the characters well and the ending is dramatic and concludes in my opinion as it should. Read it and find out

Very enjoyable listen!

I tend to be a little dubious of books written by more than one author. My previous experience has been jarring, where it seemed obvious when one writer left off and another took over. Happily, this isn't the case here. This is a very enjoyable listen. The characters are well drawn, the story engaging throughout and the twist at the end saved it from falling flat. I have a preference for British and Irish books, and narrators. I struggle with some female American narrators when their voice is too nasal, but the narrator here is very good.
