Publisher's summary

In Marti Green’s twisting novel of psychological suspense, twin sisters become engaged in a dangerous deception...

Mallory Holcolm is an unfulfilled waitress and aspiring artist living in a Queens boardinghouse when she learns something astonishing about her past: she has an identical twin sister named Charly she never knew existed.

Charly is a Princeton graduate, a respected gallery owner, and an heiress married to her handsome college sweetheart, Ben. Charly got everything she ever wanted. Everything Mallory wanted, too. And now it might be easier than Mallory ever imagined. Because Ben has reasons of his own for wanting to help her.

It begins with his startling proposal. All Mallory has to do is say yes.

But as their devious plan falls into place, piece by piece, Mallory learns more about her sister and herself than she ever meant to - a discovery that comes with an unexpected twist. A chilling deception is about to become a dangerous double cross. And it’s going to change the rules of Ben and Mallory’s game to the very end.

Excellent. Lots of twists and turns.

Story and narrators are terrific. Surprises throughput. All the characters truly are characters. I'm looking forward to more of the authors and narrator's work.

A Chick-Lit Book w/a Dark Cloud Hoovering on Top

First and foremost, this is most definitely a chick-lit (drama/romance etc) book but with a few, mild, dark twists— but in my opinion, not enough to consider it a legit mystery/thriller. With that said, I very much enjoy chick-lit books and mystery/thrillers so I was ok with the book. It’s one of those stories that would never happen in real life but for the sake of entertainment you have to just go along with it— and if you do, it will be more interesting. I thought I had the book mapped out and predicted...until part two that is. You may think you’ll be able to guess what will happen, but you won’t guess the way it is executed by the characters, and that was this book’s saving grace. I would only recommend this book if you’re into chick-lit, because otherwise you’ll be either perplexed or rolling your eyes for most of the story. But you never know, you might like it either way.

Good Twin Needs a Good-er Ending

The murder mystery without a murder - oh wait. At least, not the one you suspected. Readers are asked to suspend disbelief when entering the world of the written page - which I accept, and can buy into if the prose is captivating enough. But the last third of this book is so unbelievable that I became frustrated. I sincerely doubt one person would behave in such a manner, much less two - not to mention all the ancillary characters in their orbit to help stitch up the ending in a tidy little bow of forgiveness and family. Why do authors feel compelled to do this? Especially when real life rarely, if ever, works out that way?

Note: the descriptions of New York City, New Paltz, Hyde Park, and travels up and down the Hudson wee spot on. Either the author is a native or has spent time in the region and done their homework. Brava!

A nice paced read.

Nice pacing without too much fluff side detail. Good twists and turns throughout the entire book.

Fast paced, some surprises, a little predictable...

This is a very cleverly written book. I am a fan of Marti Green, whose previous books have all been 5 star legal thrillers (in my opinion).
This book has a very different feel to it than her other books but that might just be perspective.
This is a very easy quick read with some predictability. It moves along at a good clip and is told from different points of view.
This book is about twin sisters separated at birth. One raised by her poor single mother. The other raised by a wealthy adoptive family. The one raised in poverty is approached by her sister's husband who gives her a story of a wicked twin. He enlists her assistance to have her twin murdered and take her place. It's a little Lifetimey but entertaining.
Worth a listen but not as good as Green's legal thrillers.
