Publisher's summary

Timothy Carrier, having a beer after work at his friend's tavern, enjoys drawing eccentric customers into amusing conversations. But the jittery man who sits next to him tonight has mistaken Tim for someone very different - and passes to him a manila envelope full of cash. "Ten thousand now. You get the rest when she's gone."

The stranger walks out, leaving a photo of the pretty woman marked for death, and her address. But things are about to get worse. In minutes, another stranger sits next to Tim. This one is a cold-blooded killer who believes Tim is the man who has hired him.

Thinking fast, Tim says, "I've had a change of heart. You get 10,000 - for doing nothing. Call it a no-kill fee." He keeps the photo and gives the money to the hired killer. And when Tim secretly follows the man out of the tavern, he gets a further shock: the hired killer is a cop.

Suddenly, Tim Carrier, an ordinary guy, is at the center of a mystery of extraordinary proportions, the one man who can save an innocent life and stop a killer far more powerful than any cop...and as relentless as evil incarnate. But first Tim must discover within himself the capacity for selflessness, endurance, and courage that can turn even an ordinary man into a hero, inner resources that will transform his idea of who he is and what it takes to be The Good Guy.

Dawn

I was concerned when I saw the negative feedbacks, which prompted my review. This was a delightful listen! So many books require us to pay too close attention to details--we find ourselves getting lost or not knowing key facts halfway thru the book. This is in typical Koontz fashion, an absolutely delightfully-told, well-structured story. Great characters, great story, great ending. I don't know what there could be to complain about!

Very Good

I really liked this one. The story kept my attention, and the narrator was excellent. Koontz has his moments and this is one of them. My only negative comment was the ending and how it was wrapped up. Too much was built up for the main characters secret, which was a let down when it was disclosed. A definate air of preachiness and overly played patriotic presentation took away from an otherwise very well written story. Definately give this one a chance.

Good suspense

I really enjoyed this book and narrator. Koontz is a good road trip writer.

Koontz strikes again!

it had been a while since I had enjoyed a Dean Koontz novel. The Good Guy has enough ups and downs twists and turns character development to really keep your attention the whole way through. it was a fun twist and I would love to see the Tim Carrier character appear in more stories.
The performance was a bit difficult. three male voices three female voices sometimes talking on each other made for some confusion but the narrator pulled it off and in the end everything was clear.

Not what I wanted

I thought the story and plot were great, however, the narration was a bit much for me. This was my first time with this narrator and most likely my last. After almost every sentence I expected something dramatic that never surfaced.
The charactor was fantastic and I would love to see this charactor grow, just not by the narration I just heard. Scott Brick's narration would have made this book!

Unexpectedly good

Very much like when I picked up the book a few years back, I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. The book surprise me however, and so did this recording.

I almost return to this one because of The narrator's voice. His voice isn't bad per se, but it feels very put on.

That said, by the time I was into the second or third chapter I didn't pay attention to it anymore. and it didn't sound strange. Once I got used to the voice he was using, the story flowed very nicely, and he actually did a pretty good job.

I can't say enough good things about the story, it moves pretty quickly, and is highly entertaining. I would have liked for this book to be a bit longer, but for what it is, I don't really have any complaints.

Another Great Koontz

The characters make the book, and Koontz has a knack for creating the most strange, interesting, off-center characters, and this book is no exception!
