Publisher's summary

Two girls are forced into the woods at gunpoint. One runs for her life. One is left behind....

Twenty-eight years ago, Charlotte and Samantha Quinn's happy small-town family life was torn apart by a terrifying attack on their family home. It left their mother dead. It left their father - Pikeville's notorious defense attorney - devastated. And it left the family fractured beyond repair, consumed by secrets from that terrible night.

Twenty-eight years later, Charlie has followed in her father's footsteps to become a lawyer herself - the ideal good daughter. But when violence comes to Pikeville again - and a shocking tragedy leaves the whole town traumatized - Charlie is plunged into a nightmare. Not only is she the first witness on the scene, but it's a case that unleashes the terrible memories she's spent so long trying to suppress. Because the shocking truth about the crime that destroyed her family nearly 30 years ago won't stay buried forever.

Packed with twists and turns, brimming with emotion and heart, The Good Daughter is fiction at its most thrilling.

Great! — but very gruesome

Very intriguing story with unique characters that kept me listening non stop until I finished. I definitely think books like this should come with a “trigger warning,” as there are some disgustingly graphic sections that might really disturb some people. It’s a great novel and I enjoyed it — but listen at your own risk and prepare for cringe-inducing gory detail of violent acts.

Ooh My Goodness! Wowie...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely to certain friends. Some parts of the story are definitely brutal and not for squimish listeners. This story has so many layers. There is never a dull moment. Even the sections that are repeated provide additional information, clarity and suspense to the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Really no favorites. A pretty self-centered group of main characters with inflated perceptions of their intelligence. The other characters are one-dimensional. Each character has some type of issue which is not very attractive or endearing.

What about Kathleen Early’s performance did you like?

Fantastic reader who can move seamlessly among the chapters. Her tone and emotional emphasis were appropriate in all the right places.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and I did. Once I started it was difficult to stop. It was great to listen to when working outdoors, doing laundry and other light housework. I did pause a couple of times to take a deep breath and gather my emotions.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommended. While I liked the ending, I want to hear about the next phase of the sisters' lives. I certainly hope that there will be many stories to follow. However, this first book will be difficult to top.

Can't wait

I can not wait for the next book to be on Audible. was a great story, very intriguing and kept me interested. I recently spent 12hrs in a car driving by myself and listened to this the whole time and couldn't turn it off!

totally gripping!

If you could sum up The Good Daughter in three words, what would they be?

thrilling page turner

What did you like best about this story?

The story builds the cast of characters that can be the murderer. At some points during the story I thought I knew who did it but then I would be totally wrong. I did not guess correctly until it was revealed at the end!

Have you listened to any of Kathleen Early’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, She always does a good job with the narration.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, The twists and reveals at the end totally gutted me.

Any additional comments?

I absolutely love Karin Slaughter books. You just cant go wrong buying one.

Narrator was fantastic

The book was entertaining but a bit graphic. The narrator was the best of any books on tape that I’ve listened to.

Easily my favorite book by Slaughter!

I did not want this book to end and REALLY wish it was part of a series. I would gladly follow (or go back in time) with a number of the very endearing characters. Of course, Kathleen Early is simply phenomenal and her portrayal of the characters makes you feel like you know them... the relationship dynamics were palpable and character grit was addictive.

slow to start but...

Slow at the start and the characters weren't super palatable for me. But once you learn of there story and everything it becomes alot better. The chapter titled: what really happened to Charlie, sent chills down my spine and made my stomach roll, I just can't even.

Overall, worth the time to listen too, but not for someone who has a weak stomach.

Some slow parts-drug on at times

Some parts really slow to get through . One chapter repeats the same story but through a different perspective which was hard to listen to again.

Totally addictive

I loved it. Sucked in and held in its grip. Very compelling story. Great performance. Fabulous characters. No logic holes or unbelievable aspects. Very real and emotional. I don’t get the negative reviews. It was fantastic.

A punch to the heart.

Karen Slaughter is a brilliant writer. Felt like I held my breath through the entire book. The narration is the best I have ever heard. A definite read, but hold on tight. It's a
rough ride.
