Publisher's summary

Rick Hayden and Laura Fanning of Panacea return to encounter another mindbending scientific scenario in The God Gene, a new thriller audiobook by F. Paul Wilson.

Rick's brother, Keith, a prominent zoologist at NYU, walks out of his office one day and disappears. The only clue they have are his brother's book, which mentions "the God Gene". A million or so years ago, a gene designated hsa-mir-3998 appeared as if by magic from the junk DNA of the hominids who eventually evolved into Homo sapiens. It became a key player in brain development - specifically creativity - and laymen started calling it "the God Gene". Keith had been tracking this gene through the evolutionary tree, and was excited by an odd blue-eyed primate he brought back from East Africa. But immediately after running the creature's genetic code, he destroyed all the results and vanished.

Rick and Laura's search takes them to an uncharted island in the Mozambique Channel, home of the dapis - blue-eyed primates whose DNA hides a world-shattering secret. In a globe-spanning mixture of science, mystery and adventure, The God Gene takes listeners to the edge of evolutionary theory and beyond...way beyond.

Imaginative

Good narration, unusual story. I am always a little disappointed when religion sneaks in without warning. You would have to be sensitive to be bothered by this, but it is an attack on evolution. The ending is clear very early on.

interesting story

They story is interesting. But it primarily the characters that carry then book. The actual plot seems secondary to the main character development.

The God Gene

I still have no idea what the god gene might be. I listened again and missed it. The book was good, the story was excellent, aside from that little miss. I thought the narration was very good.

OK but disappointing after Panacea

This book picks up the story of Rick and Laura after Panacea and also involves a quest of sorts in an exotic setting. Although the basic premise is quite imaginative, the story is slow-moving with too much detail in the first half on the personal lives of the two main characters. It improves when action moves to Africa but is less exciting than Panacea. Rick also comes across as a more boring and wrongheaded character than in the previous book although this may be due partly to the narration.

Will they fall in love?

Nice follow up from Panacea. need to say 15 words because people who make this possible would probably be the ones who die in this book!
if that's not enough for you...nothing will be!

F.Paul Wilson should go back to the "Tomb" writing

Reader should not just be female...adventure and Mysteries should also have a male. The reader in the novel definitely detracted.

A real snoozer.

DNF. Nowhere near as good as Panacea. The search for Rick's brother Keith and this other story about the search for the blue eyed monkey was boring as hell. It was a 14 hour book. I made it thru 5 hours. Even with the French guy and his South African compadre actually finding the monkeys was hardly exciting. I'm not sure what Wilson was going for, but I kept dozing off with this one. BORING!
