Publisher's summary

Imagine that you live on a picturesque communal garden square, an oasis in urban London where your children run free, in and out of other people's houses. You've known your neighbors for years and you trust them. Implicitly. You think your children are safe. But are they really? On a midsummer night, as a festive neighborhood party is taking place, preteen Pip discovers her 13-year-old sister Grace lying unconscious and bloody in a hidden corner of a lush rose garden. What really happened to her? And who is responsible?

Disappointing ending

Was excited to read this book as I thoroughly enjoy this authors other works. However the plot was predictable, the guilty not only got away with it but were somewhat rewarded, and it left me being dissatisfied with the ending.

never disappointed

Every book I read by Lisa Jewell, I begin thinking I can't get into it. then just in a snap I'm hooked. Round and round she takes me until I almost forget where we started. Then bam even if in the end it's as I suspected, it's the rollercoaster that keeps me coming back.

Not her best, to say the least

It pains me to say this, as Lisa Jewell is one of my favorite writers, but fans should give this a miss. The story felt disjointed and pointless, and lacked the in-depth and intimate character development so prevalent in her usually excellent books. I hated most of the characters and found few of the adults sympathetic. The ending was unsatisfying and felt unjust.

Ms. Jewell has many other books that are superb, and which have given me hours of entertainment that I can forgive her for this one dud.

Great start...

I enjoyed this book from the beginning, it kept my attention and kept me guessing. Sadly, I was disappointed with the ending.

A great book

A wonderful book that I found to be developmental and maturative for a young man coming of age such as myself. I found this book to be relatable and generally worthwhile to get through. I further highly recommend this book.

Nice story overall

I enjoyed the storyline overall. It was hard to keep up with parts and I’d have to rewind because the storyline perspective would jump back and forth with no warning or indication other than l just context in the story. Not a ton of depth for any of the many characters. BUT, I still enjoyed it. I could see the garden, park, the homes. I could visualize the places and characters well which helped since there were several. Narration was great!

Intriguing and interesting

I restarted this book three times just so I can get more details that I may have missed…it is THAT interesting. There are so many characters and each has a backstory that plays into the theme. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and highly recommend reading it.

Slow but good twist

Started off kinda slow and a little hard to understand when listening to it. I think if I read it it wouldn’t be so confusing but after awhile I got the gist. The end was good tho!

Unresolved ending

A case is built, it’s very interesting but then dismissed at the end. A non-ending
