Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series continues in this “engrossing” novel (USA Today) as brilliant hacker Lisbeth Salander teams up with journalist Mikael Blomkvist to uncover the secrets of her childhood and take revenge. • Also known as the Millennium series

Lisbeth Salander—obstinate outsider, volatile seeker of justice for herself and others—seizes on a chance to unearth her mysterious past once and for all. And she will let nothing stop her—not the Islamists she enrages by rescuing a young woman from their brutality; not the prison gang leader who passes a death sentence on her; not the deadly reach of her long-lost twin sister, Camilla; and not the people who will do anything to keep buried knowledge of a sinister pseudoscientific experiment known only as The Registry. Once again, Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist are the fierce heart of a thrilling full-tilt novel that takes on some of the world's most insidious problems.

Critic reviews

"[Narrator Simon] Vance's extraordinary talent comes through in the tense dramatic scenes involving a research study of twins gone awry and in his special ability to differentiate men, women, young, and old from all over the globe." (AudioFile)

A disapointment this time around

There were a number of problems with this installment of the Lisbeth Salander series. First, and a relatively minor one, was the constant shifting back and forth through time of the story line. That's a bit harder for an audible book to pull off well as opposed to reading it. The shifting occurred so often and suddenly that it was hard to follow. The more telling problem for me was that the characters too often acted out of character. They acted more like marionettes dancing to the storyline than characters driving the storyline themselves. I really liked "The girl in the spider's web" but this one was a real disappointment.

Befuddling Reviews

Another enjoyble adventure w/ quirkily lovable characters, despite opinions to the contrary... I don't get all the negativity in reviews... Ok, so it's not written by Stieg Larsson, fine, but regardless, it's a good read... So, not as good as the originals... Still though, if you can divorce yourself from pre expectations coloring the experience you'll take to it... I do so love Mikael and Lisbeth, and the author captures the mood and substance of those Characters, even if their facetime coulda been a bit heavier... Story arc is perhaps a little rough, but pacing is good, and the intrigue occurring around everyone and everything keeps your attention... Some nicely done prescient plot devices... An absolutely beautiful ending, and worth it for the chance to settle in w/ some old friends...

Lisbeth takes a backseat.

If you are looking for the Lisbeth from the first 3 books, she is sadly missing from this book. Lagercrantz/Vance turned her into a tamed and less intelligent version of herself. That said, the story is interesting and a good listen.

not enough meat

this was too short, and there could have been so much more done to beef it up. it just seemed lacking. I do appreciate the continued story and adventures of Lisbeth and Mikhail though.

slightly disappointing

Been a fan of the series from the beginning, but never have been a fan of this authors portrayal of the original characters. That not withstanding , here the story too let's us down. no deep and complex mysteries that we have come to expect from the series. whole book feels like a prologue for a book you don't get to.
