As the anniversary of the murders approaches, Faith Winters is released from the psychiatric hospital and yanked back to the last spot on earth she wants to be - her hometown where the slayings took place. Wracked by the lingering echoes of survivor's guilt, Faith spirals into a black hole of alcoholism and wanton self-destruction. Finding no solace at the bottom of a bottle, Faith decides to track down her sister's killer - only to discover that she's the one being hunted.

How can one woman uncover the truth when everyone's a suspect - including herself?

From the mind of Wall Street Journal best-selling author Christopher Greyson The Girl Who Lived should come with a warning label: Once you start listening, you won't be able to stop. Not since Girl on the Train and Gone Girl has a psychological thriller kept listeners so addicted - and guessing right until the last chapter.

Who do you trust when you trust no one?

I want to thank Audible reviewer Wayne for pointing me to this book, I totally missed this one!
I thought this was a very good book. Completely different from the Jack Stratton novels which are fast and fun. This book is a little more serious. I wouldn't say more complex but I wouldn't call it fun. Definitely fast paced with a wide variety of murder suspects. By the time I got to the end I had kind of guessed who done it but was still a little surprised when that person was confirmed. All of the loose ends were not neatly tied up but I guess the author leaves that up to the listeners imagination, unless he intends to write another.
Amy McFadden did a wonderful job narrating. Her voice fit the main character perfectly.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Not my cup of tea…

Perhaps it was the narrator, but this felt like a 16 hour, one-way conversation with a female millennial about the sufferings of her besty. If it was the writer’s intent to bury us so deeply in the protagonists tortured life that we could not see up from down, then he achieved his goal brilliantly. But as a “psychological thriller” I found the book to be so gratuitous
in that regard as to lose any pacing and ultimately overwhelm the slightest hint of suspense.

Kept me on the edge of my seat

I didn’t like The Girl on the Train, so I usually steer clear of books with descriptions that include “If you liked Girl on the Train...” This was an exception.

Another reviewer said that there was an early hint to who the killer really was. I missed that clue. At one point or another I wondered if each character was the real killer.

Another reviewer said that there were too many characters introduced later in the story. There were a lot of characters who came in later in the story, but it also didn’t seem strange. Faith spent a lot of time in a psych hospital. She didn’t have friends. Acquaintances and friends of some people who had been friends of the family before the murders came into the picture later on. People wanted to protect her, so it didn’t seem strange that they would shelter her for a time from others.

With all sorts of seemingly loose ends, I was getting concerned that the author wouldn’t be able to pull off a decent ending, but I found the ending satisfying.

The characters had enough depth to be interesting and likable.

Almost good

However Faith was a whiner, Thad sounded drunk before he drank and just got worse and the characters who could have been developed and thus interesting never were. The last 10 minutes was simply stupid.

Excellent psychological thriller, but it...

...is not quite as good as either any of the 7 novel Jack Stratton modern detective series by the same author (Christopher Greyson) or the psychological thriller I reviewed last night (Killman Creek by Rachel Caine). There is a plot twist at the end of the Girl Who Lived that is so stunning that I must rate the novel 5 stars.

The Girl Who Lived is about 23 year old Faith Winters who has been in and out of mental hospitals during the 10 years since her dad supposedly killed her older sister and then killed himself as Faith escaped. Faith's mother, a psychologist, was not present at the time. Faith is convinced that a rat-faced man she believes she saw at the scene is the real killer. Amy McFadden's narration is first rate. I recommend this Christopher Greyson psychological thriller, but my recommendation is even stronger for Greyson's seven novel fun Detective Jack Stratton suspense mystery series which should be read in order beginning with Girl Jacked.

For young teens

I’m 23 and I feel like the book was to immature for me. The plot sounds good but wasn’t worth it for me. The ending is good but the whole read was poorly executed in my opinion.

Absolutely Superior

One of the more cleverly wrought thrillers you’ll read... Wonderful pacing and use of bread crumbing, not to mention the gas lighting... Narrative voice and mood lends to a constant feeling of jangly nerves... Psychological tension is intense and practically seamless... The therapy components are delightfully different from average fare... Survivors throughout, only out numbered by the suspects;). The build up approaches freight train quality, especially the last third or so... You’ll find yourself constantly flip flopping back and forth on who you are convinced the culprit/s are, even though you’ll have all the clues you need... Couldn’t put it down, and upon finishing remarked out loud “now, that’s an awesome book!” Great character development and narration, and the resolution/payoff w/ everything else make it nothing less than a 5* selection...

Couldn’t Make it Past the 3rd Chapter

This book put me to sleep. I don’t know if it was the way it was written or performed but it didn’t grab my attention and it seemed to belabor points. Maybe it is just a slow start kind of read? I don’t know but I was very bored.

Entertaining and worthwhile

I really enjoyed this book. I found myself guessing the ending and really looking forward to my hour commutes to and from work so I could listen.
I found the main character slightly annoying, I wanted to shake her and say, “Get it together girl!” But all in all I enjoyed the story and did not predict the ending! Would listen to again.

I got the book because she was the one reading, so it was amazing the book was just as good.
