Publisher's summary

"Knocking off a bank or an armored truck is merely crude. Knocking off an entire republic has, I feel, a certain style." So says mining magnate Sir James Manson, a shadowy titan of London's financial district, who is scheming a coup d'état in the small West African dictatorship of Zangaro, where a secret source of platinum lies waiting to be exploited.

The man selected to plan and carry out the sack of Zangaro is Cat Shannon, a 33-year-old Anglo-Irishman from Nigeria. If the goal is clear, the means are not, for there are no up-to-date manuals on overthrowing governments by force. By the time he has set forth this sinister venture in all its ramifications, Frederick Forsyth has fashioned that manual and given us a classic of terror and enthrallment.

Not the best

I am a big fan of Fred's since "Day of the Jackal"
Before Audible I read everything he penned.
I feel the novel was better than the reading and the movie with Christopher Walken was over the top!
Unless you are die hard fan you might not enjoy the precision planing that overwhelms the story.

Enjoyed the story but background noise

As usual enjoy Frederick Forsyth and the story remains relevant. There was background noise that sounded like speech so when I first started listening on my headphones while walking I kept looking around wondering who was talking

Good book.

Performance was fine but the recording is poor, with digital audio artifacts that distract from the experience.

Very interesting listen!

While this book is a story of mercenary action in Africa, one kid almost use it as a blueprint for how to do a coup d'etat back in the '80s.

There is a very good plot twist at the end which is well worth the time to get to.

I would highly recommend you listen to this novel if you like reading about mercenaries and their work in Africa and in Europe.

A good book but poor production.

The book is fine but the production quality is poor. You can hear echo and talking in the background.

The single best military "fiction" written.

Forsyth completely out does himself in action, plot, sub plot, and details of how to wage a small war and win one for the good guys.
The movie was ok, but had to skip over a lot of the most interesting details of just the "paper work" of war!

Interesting story, mediocre performance

The narrator sometimes sounds as if he’s reading a line for the first time and doesn’t expect the last couple of words in a sentence. Good interesting story. May be dry to some but I enjoyed the detailed setup.

Fantastic performance and addictive plot

Loved the characters - the detail brought everything to life in such a thrilling way - highly enjoyable and worth the time
