Publisher's summary

When the body of a night watchman is found sprawled in the shadow of a rare 19th-Dynasty mummy case, panic ensues. For no one doubts that the guard's untimely demise is the work of an ancient Egyptian curse. No one, that is, except that tart-tongued Victorian Egyptologist, Amelia Peabody, whose remarkable talent for criminal investigation has frustrated villains from London to Cairo.

Now fresh from her daring exploits in exotic Egypt, Amelia, her sexy archaeologist husband, Emerson, and their catastrophically precocious son, Ramses, have returned to their native England just in time to get wrapped up in the intrigue. It's a mystery worthy of Amelia's superior sleuthing, but can she elude the vile clutches of the real perpetrator long enough to uncover his identity...or is she destined to wind up as his next victim?

Don't miss the rest of the Amelia Peabody series.

love these books.

this is probably the saddest book yet far. the relationships between the family members were damaged in the previous book, and I hate the niece and nephew.

Amazing Imagination

Reading Elizabeth Peter’s amazing writing, leaves me in awe that someone can create such complicated & amusing scenarios. The humor and imagination in this particular book kept me smiling (except for the gruesome parts). Susan O’Malley makes the story & it’s nuances a success.

This series just gets better!

I love this story. As this series develops the characters just get better and more dimensional. the stories are great. This is probably my 4th time through in 20 years or so. First time with audiobooks. Susan really has the characters and delivery down!

Loved it! Best one yet. 💖

Another brilliant and entertaining book from Elizabeth Peters. Likewise, Susan O'Malley's talent in narrating Peabody as smart and pretentious yet lovable, is fabulous! Furthermore, Ramses is at his full glorious heroic best in this setting. I chuckled and shook my head through the whole thing.

Wonderful!!

I want to marry Ramses when he grows up! What a great character! I totally love the voice done by Susan O'Malley. She is my favorite narrator for the Amelia Peabody series. She may not have a heavy English accent but the books are so full of fun and and occasional foolishness the narration voice NEEDS to be less rather than more. I'm hoping for more Amelia done by Susan!!

Disappointed in narrator

I am revisiting the Amelia Peabody series and I have been disappointed that some of the Audible books are no longer narrated by Barbara Rosenblatt. Please make her recordings available! Susan O’Malley just doesn’t compare.

Sherlock and Watson as Egyptologists

I finally realized that "Peabody and Emerson" operates much like the Holmes duo, but with a more assertive "Watson," almost like the Lucy Lieu character in the TV show, "Elementary." There are even allusions to Holmes in the plot.
