Good follow-up to book 1

I love the setting for these books! A tourist island in Alaska with a close knit community sounds wonderful to me. Of course, a murder on the island would spoil it but some of the residents band together to help find the guilty party. It had been a while since I listened to book one but once I started listening it was like getting back together with old acquaintances. These are some of my favorite book characters. As always, Michelle Babb is a pleasure to listen to. She puts a lot into her narrations. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Loving this series

This story was sad it really spoke to my heart. It also brought happiness as new relationships were formed. This story had a lot of mystery shrouded in the death of Mrs Nash. Caribou is torn between 2 men vying for her attention. Her sister Mellie is struggling with morning sickness as her momma hovers trying to take care of Mellie and Caribou aka Cara. I love the closeness of this family because family is everything. As always narrator and Babb has done an excellent job bringing this story to life. She has become my favorite female narrator. Good job to the author and narrator. I want to follow this series to the end. I was given this book free of charge in exchange for a voluntary unbiased review.

Too much romance for me, but enjoyable overall

Pros: The setting and characters remain as charming and cozy as the first book, with captivating descriptions of small town life and the close-knit relationships among the community. The main mystery is exciting and interesting without feeling too fantastic or out of place for the setting.

Cons: If you are considering reading this to learn more about the story from the first book, don’t bother. The events of the first book are barely mentioned (if they’re mentioned at all) which I found a little unrealistic since this book takes place only a couple weeks after those events.
The romantic undertones from the first book kick into overdrive here. As someone who didn’t like the romance in the first book (or romance novels in general), this felt grating and uncomfortable at times. Also, if you have had bad experiences with intimacy and consent, the relatively aggressive way one of the love interests pursues Cara may bother you, like it did me. I’m sure some people get all hot and bothered reading about men touching and kissing them out of nowhere and asserting themselves, but I hate that kind of stuff and found myself literally squirming in my seat during some scenes just waiting for it to be over.

Overall, it was worth the listen for the lovely characters and setting, but I can’t see myself continuing with this series if the flirting/romance continues like this.

Book two is as good as Book one!

This book does stand alone, However, it picks up where book one ended. I would recommend reading both. This is mystery that stumped me. I did not know who had committed the murder.
I always enjoy Michelle Babb's narrations. She has done an excellent job as usual.

I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

I want to visit Alaska!

I started this series with this book - the second in the series- but it was well written enough that I was able to pick up the running backstory and enjoy the mystery out heros faced during this installment. I enjoyed the Linda Crowder’s writing style and really didn’t figure out who committed the crime until quite late in the book.

Michelle Babb is a star performer in my opinion and turned in another presentation!

I recommend both the author and the narrator!

Didn't want it to end!

I enjoyed this mystery. The scenery as described lets me visit Alaska without actually being there. Koho Bay sounds like a nice little town to visit.
I liked the character names.
The story kept me on the edge of my seat.
I didn't want it to end! Now I have to read the next one!
I was a little disappointed with the narration. It was hard to tell sometimes which character was speaking.

This cozy mystery is set in Alaska. The cast of characters, all with their own quirky personalities will keep the listener wondering "What's next?" The descriptions of the Alaskan landscape draws you in. There are twists some won't see coming, while others will see it right away. I want to know what's next for Caribou King.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Michelle Babb is always fun to listen to perform.

Another Alaskian Mystery

What did you love best about The Deadly Art of Love and Murder?

Trying to figure out the mystery and be right! Sadly, my ideas were wrong in this book, but this makes the book great. If I can't figure it out, it helps to keep my attention.

Which character – as performed by Michelle Babb – was your favorite?

I love all the characters by Michelle Babb. She really brings them to life while reading the story. A great narrator is important in an audiobook and Michelle always hits that on the head.

Another fun whodunit!

The Deadly Art of Love and Murder by Linda Crowder is a fun and engaging story about a murder that begs to be solved. Cara, having found an elderly woman dead in a cabin, has her nose in the investigation, much to the chagrin of the policeman in charge, who just might be a love interest for Cara. The relationships with her family and her would be suitors, yes suitors as in plural, are interesting and sometimes humorous. The author has crafted a good mystery that keeps the reader in the dark until the end. Twists and turns to the plot, a good concoction of characters, setting, and conflict and Cara's love life are threaded nicely together and lead to a satisfying conclusion. I listened to the audio version of the book and the narrator, Michelle Babb, does a nice job of giving characters their unique voice which made for an enjoyable listening experience. I enjoyed catching up with the characters from the first book in the series (The Deadly Art of Deception) and am hoping there's a third book in the works.

A slice of life with a mystery.

I revived this product for free take what I say as my honest opinion but with that knowledge up front. I will also say im not the target audience for this but generally like the book.


TL;DR Good book if sort with a straight forward mystery in an interesting setting.


This work seems like a good one there are some small town quaintness charm mixed with murder. The crime bit of this has at best a middling level of twists and turns you will bang it out the who done it in about 45 mins after meeting all the players. The "romance" part of this I cant really speak to, imo it low key could have been left off and we the reader would be fine but im not the target demographic.

I could have used way way more evocative descriptions of the setting, there is a lot of assumptions that the read just understands what this small town in Alaska looks like and that might not be the case for most of us.


Michelle Babb dose a good job much of supporting cast sound distinct and I think as mom they did really good job playing to her voice. The MC sounded wistful and was generally pleasant. There where no audio errors or word pronunciation issues.


The book is short, if it worth a credit I will leave up to you but if you looking to scratch that Louise Penny itch and ok with a little (if TEDIOUS) will they wont theying, some light smooching, a conventional mystery, and a big slice of life then this will be a good buy.
