Publisher's Summary

INCLUDES AN EXTENDED INTERVIEW WITH NELSON DEMILLE AND SCOTT BRICK!

From the legendary number-one New York Times best-selling author of Plum Island and Night Fall, Nelson DeMille's blistering new novel features an exciting new character - US Army combat veteran Daniel "Mac" MacCormick, now a charter boat captain, who is about to set sail on his most dangerous cruise.

Daniel Graham MacCormick - Mac for short - seems to have a pretty good life. At age 35 he's living in Key West, owner of a 42-foot charter fishing boat, The Maine. Mac served five years in the army as an infantry officer, with two tours in Afghanistan. He returned with the Silver Star, two Purple Hearts, scars that don't tan, and a boat with a big bank loan. Truth be told, Mac's finances are more than a little shaky.

One day Mac is sitting in the famous Green Parrot Bar in Key West, contemplating his life and waiting for Carlos, a hotshot Miami lawyer heavily involved with anti-Castro groups. Carlos wants to hire Mac and The Maine for a 10-day fishing tournament to Cuba at the standard rate, but Mac suspects there is more to this and turns it down. The price then goes up to $2 million, and Mac agrees to hear the deal and meet Carlos's clients - a beautiful Cuban American woman named Sara Ortega and a mysterious older Cuban exile, Eduardo Valazquez.

What Mac learns is that there is 60 million American dollars hidden in Cuba by Sara's grandfather when he fled Castro's revolution. With the "Cuban Thaw" underway between Havana and Washington, Carlos, Eduardo, and Sara know it's only a matter of time before someone finds the stash - by accident or on purpose. And Mac knows if he accepts this job, he'll walk away rich...or not at all.

Brilliantly written, with his signature humor, fascinating authenticity from his research trip to Cuba, and heart-pounding pace. Nelson DeMille is a true master of the genre.

"A Laugh Out Loud Audio Book!"

I had a good time. Sardonic humor, witty without being witless. Believable dialogue and character interaction.

"Throughly enjoyed this book, hated to see it end."

this was the first De mille book I have read and look forward to reading more of his books. This was also the first audio book I have listed too and throughly enjoyed the audio version. As I lived in Fl during the Cuban crises, and one of my high school teachers was a Cuban refugee and had to leave the school he owned behind, he would tell stories of life in Cuba before and after Castro took over.

    "Very funny book! "

DeMille is one of my favorite authors and I have enjoyed all his characters. This book features a new lead character that is very sarcastic and funny and made the book very enjoyable. Scott Brick did an incredible job and overall, I could listen to the book again (which I think is the highest compliment you can pay an audiobook).

    "A Real Disappointment"

Predictable story, repetitive, and simplistic. Reader added to this drawn out and trite plot. Should not be on a best seller list,

    "Enjoyed it"

I enjoy reading books like this........intrigue, adventure, good characters, etc. And of course Scott Brick hits it out of the park again.

Only negative thing was that it was a bit slow in places simply because of the way the story was written. But overall, enjoyable.

    "great characters and excellent narration"

despite my criticisms, this is an entertaining novel and worthy of Nelson DeMille. the story is about Jack and Afghanistan Vectren that is asked to participate and extracting treasure from Cuba. the main character Mac has a sarcastic wit and his first mate Jack who is a Vietnam veteran have a friendship that only soldiers can share. there's a love interest in Sarah and her jealous boyfriend Felipe that adds a lot to the novel and tension with the main character Mac. the novel left me wanting more of the culture of the Cuban people to come through the narration from Scott Brick was superb. he characterized all the characters both male and female Cuban and American with near perfect inflection. I would recommend this book two an adventure seeking listener. I would not recommend this book to somebody that is looking for a cultural experience.
