Publisher's summary
John Wells returns for another deadly mission from New York Times best-selling author Alex Berenson...
In an Istanbul hotel, a deep source warns a CIA agent that Iran intends to kill a CIA station chief. Quickly, John Wells is called in to investigate, but before he can get far, the tip comes true. Which means that the next warning the source gives will be taken very seriously indeed. And it’s a big one.
A radioactive one.
As the threat level jumps and the government mobilizes, Wells must figure out what’s really going on. From a drug lord’s mansion in Guatemala to a secret plastic surgery center in Thailand to the slums of Istanbul, Wells uses every skill he has - including his ability to go undercover in the Arab world - to chase down leads. But the enemy he faces is equally determined. And soon he may be too late to pull the United States back from the brink of war...

Days before the July Fourth holiday and the dedication of One World Trade Center at Ground Zero, an incident aboard a commercial jet flying over the Atlantic Ocean reminds everyone that vigilance is not a task to be taken lightly. But for iconoclastic NYPD detective Jeremy Fisk, it may also be a signal that there is much more to this case than the easy answer of this being just the work of another lone terrorist. Fisk suspects that the event might also be a warning sign that another scheme has been set in motion.

Grace Chu is an American-educated Chinese national now working as a forensic accountant after serving in the Chinese army as an intelligence officer. John Knox is an American who parlayed his military service during the first Iraqi war into a lucrative import/export business, which now provides him the official access he needs to work freelance undercover operations throughout the world. Both are highly skilled operatives capable of deft subterfuge or extreme violence, if circumstances require.

Trying to make it to The Wolves
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I enjoyed the story, as I have enjoyed all of the John Wells books but I knew going into this title it was going to be a continued book from previous reviews. As my review indicates, I purchased The Wolves but it was obvious that that book was a continuation of the previous book. I believe it would have been better to title this book as Part 1, Twelve Days as Part 2, etc,... It just seems it would have been little easier to swallow.
What was most disappointing about Alex Berenson’s story?
Have you ever watched a "to be continued" TV show? If so you understand the disappointment of the story.
Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?
George Guidall is my favorite narrator.

Great story but....
leaves you hanging. The story was fast paced and full of typical John Wells action. If you've been reading these books in order, you can see Wells getting a little older, maybe a step slower and more fed up with the politics of his craft. He's slowly coming to the realization that his craft and lifestyle have left him aging, alone and realizing that his job HAS been his life. This book ends with a big loose end and a lead in to the nect book in the series. if you're a John Wells fan, you wont be disappointed! ! on to Twelve Days!!

Nuclear war averted!
Alex Berenson's John Wells series has one of of the more interesting espionage series. I do not rate Berenson as top tier espionage thriller writers but all 10 of his books earn 4 or 5 stars. John Wells is a CIA assassin and a Muslim. His CIA boss/handler Ellis Shafer plays a major part in this book and others. In The Counterfeit Agent Wells at great risk to himself helps avert nuclear war.
George Guidall narrates this and the other novels in the Wells series. He is always outstanding.

Great story and narration as usual but....
Great to listen to another John Wells tale, Berenson did a fine job as usual, the novel has plenty of research and thought that went into crafting it.
Unfortunately is does end in a cliff hanger, I guess we will have to wait another year for part 2; Alex is getting GRR Martinesk as he is aging as an author.
