Beautifully crafted story of sacrifice and forgiveness

The Brother Cadfael books are all good reads, but this is particularly enjoyable. There is less emphasis on medieval forensics, and more on relationships, although all Ellis Peters’ books look into the human heart. The gentle ending is poignant and satisfying. The narration by Patrick Tull is superb.

Road Trip!

Brother Cadfael sets out on a journey of atonement with another brother who is in search of absolution. Along the way, dark secrets of the past are uncovered, and Cadfael must work to set everything right in the end. I enjoyed this one. We get to meet new characters and get away from the Abbey for a while. Patrick Tull, as always, does an incredible job telling the tale.

One of her best!

I am constantly amazed by Ms. Peters' plots and themes and characters and how she weaves her moral wisdom into a complex tapestry.

Beautifully done

After years of hearing Alec Guinness as brother cadfael, and enjoying that, it is delightful to heard a welsh interruption.

Plot Cliche, But Lovely Exploration of Reactions

It's been a while since I listened to one of the Chronicles. It started a little slow and bordering on cliche, but as Brothers Haluin and Cadfael are kept in the area due to weather, what's really going on becomes clearer and clearer to Cadfael. Then he does what he does best, which is lay observations before others and give them space to unburden themselves of the truth. The latter part of the book and the emotions it evoked made up for its beginning.

Not Ellis Peters' usual high standard

Best. Narrator. Ever.
The story this time around was terribly predictable, but I could listen to this man read the phone book. I love Cadfael.
