Publisher's Summary

In this gripping thriller, an ex-agent on the run from her former employers must take one more case to clear her name and save her life.

She used to work for the US government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning.

Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

When her former handler offers her a way out, she realises it's her only chance to erase the giant target on her back. But it means taking one last job for her ex-employers. To her horror, the information she acquires only makes her situation more dangerous.

Resolving to meet the threat head-on, she prepares for the toughest fight of her life but finds herself falling for a man who can only complicate her likelihood of survival. As she sees her choices being rapidly whittled down, she must apply her unique talents in ways she never dreamed of.

In this tautly plotted novel, Meyer creates a fierce and fascinating new heroine with a very specialised skill set. And she shows once again why she's one of the world's best-selling authors.

Fantastic in every way.

An amazingly well written novel with am equally incredible reader. The story was brought to life in such a vivid way I could actually see the movie playing in my head. Loved every minute of it.

So hard to put down a compelling read

What made the experience of listening to The Chemist the most enjoyable?

It was not only unexpected but totally original. I got into each character, no exceptions, and kept thinking this cannot get any more interesting or surprising and it did.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Obviously I suppose the female chemist and her role was so compelling and she had it so together, was competent, quick thinking and skilled.

What about Ellen Archer’s performance did you like?

I reckon he did a great job, never lost my interest for one moment

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have loved to but actually it was nice to look forward to and oh did I feel empty when I had finished.

Held my attention and amazing characters

Any additional comments?

I loved this book. I am Stephenie Meyer fan and my favourite book is the Host. I was expecting this book to be the 2nd in the series (the seeker) but i'm not disappointed as this is a great book.

This book has no supernatural element to it but has three great characters that I couldn't get enough of. The lead role is female and she is a strong character who can look after her self from the very start of the book! There are so many great scenes where she kicks ass of strong male characters which is fab. There is of course a love story of course but it isn't the main focus of the story :)

I love the way Stephanie writes as the story flows well, very catchy and characters you feel for very quickly. Give it a go!

Twilight all grown up and really worth the read

I loved this audio it was well written and read. I am a massive fan of the twilight saga and simply read this book due to that but the Chemist is so much more than I expected and the suspense is so good at times its painful.

Awful

Simply awful. Please do not waste a credit on this book. The narration was coma inducing. I nearly quit several times but it isn't in my nature to.

Not for veterans of the "Thriller genre.

Perhaps a good book for younger readers or those just beginning their foray into the world of "thrillers". The blurb led me to expect more intrigue and depth than this story delivered and I feel that "young adult fiction" should be a sub-heading. The narrator is clearly very talented (excellent male character voices, I thought) and would be well-suited to a range of performances, however in this case, she invested no drama or tension into the story-telling, which for me, detracted from any sense of suspense or involvement. I stuck with it to the end in case something happened to redeem this book but unfortunately it didn't. Just not for me I suppose and I'd be delighted if I could write nearly as well as this author, however this misses the mark in my opinion, for what that's worth as a non-author.

Thrilling and well paced

I didn't know what to expect from Ms Mayer as there wasn't a vampire in sight but I liked the premise. I really enjoyed The Chemist, a strong female lead that isn't wishy washy. The narration is excellent a perfect match. It also had a good ending, so many others I've read rush the ending and it falls flat. This wasn't the case, I feel satisfied and a little sad it's finished. I would love to spend more time in the company of Alex, the brothers and Einstein.
Take a listen, you won't be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this book, although I found it a bit o.t.t. at times. The narration was superb! I would recommend this book.

Gripping and engaging story

I knew I would enjoy this book - I really like this author's style of writing. I was amazed how much I liked the characters- even given their violent exploits.
I will re-read (or listen) this novel again. I couldn't wait to see how it ended - but I didn't want it to finish!

Enjoyed it

Very good performance. And, an unusual thing for me, I really enjoyed the romantic parts. I would probably shorten them a little, though. Anyway, this book will appeal
rather to women. A good thriller, many twists of action, lots of humour, mainly thanks to the Kevin character. Daniel is too good to be true, but this is necessary for the romance.
Val is fun, Alex is original. I had nice time with this book.

Great story but too much romance interfering.

Great storyline but too much time in the romance. When you buy one of these suspense thriller stories you tend not to look for too much romance. It kept stopping the flow of the story and I got bored. Take out the boring bed scenes and this would have been awesome.

Good story with a strong female lead

I found this enjoyable - it turned traditional ideas of masculine dominance in the 'Special Ops' world on its head in a believable way

However I didn't enjoy the development of romantic relationship within this framework- seemed a little contrived and too 'Mills and Boon'

-still a fun read

Obvious

This book was selected by my book club. I love to read so don't judge me for cheating and not reading in a book club- I had spring cleaning to do= two birds, one stone.

I am so glad I did. If I had to read this, I would have been angry I wasted my time.

Although I recognised the name, I didn't associate the name Stephenie Myer with Twilight as I wasnt a fan. It was only now that I've finished the audiobook and was about to leave a review, that I noticed her other titles and I've finally twigged... that's why this book was predictable, vapid and boring!!

Note: I also hated the narration, but one needs to give the benefit of the doubt to the performer. I feel like perhaps it was the terrible writing, insipid characters and inauthentic dialogue that left me irritated. That said; her voice of the male character who I've already forgotten, not the sap- the jock, was painful.

Slow to start, but worth perservering

I found this book to be very slow. Lots of waffle at the beginning but it certainly got more exciting about a third of the way through. I persevered as I am a huge fan of The Host (by the same author) & thought I should give it a fair go. I am so glad I did, I really enjoyed the book. Lots of action and intrigue. The characters were really interesting. The narrator did an excellent job, it was easy to differentiate between the characters.

Amazing. Recommended!

Would you listen to The Chemist again? Why?

I normally don't listen to/read books twice. So probably not a good question for me. There's just too many great stories out there, I couldn't possibly spend my time on something I already read.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Chemist?

Oh wow. So many. The way her and Kevin met was amazing. Her finding out the whole twin thing. The planning and execution of the action in the book was so full on. I couldn't quit reading until the main event happened.

What does Ellen Archer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I'm always more of a fan of myself reading a book. Someone else reading it just always makes the book less than it could have been originally, for me at least. Ellen Archer was a great reader and great on emphasizing but didn't stand out from the others I don't think. At least she didn't have any annoying qualities.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes. A bit of laughter, a little crying but mostly just captivated. Got my heart pumping a bit faster that's for sure. Super entertaining book.

Any additional comments?

Great twists. Loved everything unfolding slowly throughout the book. I was a HUGE fan of Twilight and even more so of Host so I may be biased towards Stephanie Meyer but this was just as great as I expected from her. Please keep them coming Stephanie! <3
