Publisher's summary

All credit cards have stopped working. Today. This morning. What cash you have in your wallet is it. ATMs and bank systems are down. You can't get gas, or groceries. Commerce has essentially come to a halt. Such is the backdrop of The Back Door Man.

Our society is computer centric. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn. We're plugged in. Managing our finances online. Downloading apps for our iPhone. Reading the WSJ on our Kindle. There are things out there on the cutting edge we don't even know we need to fear. The Back Door Man takes us there.

We see it through the eyes of James Kolinsky, a simple family man who works in information security. His day goes from bad to worse when he discovers that his greatest fear is his fault and what's happened to him has happened to millions of others. He's been set up. His family - make that the world - has been taken hostage. The next twenty-four hours we find out what James Kolinsky is really made of.

excellent story

The story was gripping, fascinating, can"t-put-it-down good.
I found jarring some of the grammar issues and misused words or phrases. Example: the character is said (twice) to have made a "split decision" when he'd actually made a "split second decision."
I still recommend it for the plot, the characters and the suspense.

Scarier than zombies

I really enjoyed this book. It is really scary to think about someone being able to wipe us out financially with a computer. We are entirely too dependent. I really liked having the good guy win.

What did you love best about The Back Door Man?

The heaping on of issue after issue on James, and how the character evolved ( and was gradually exposed ) to the reader. Skillfully done, without being trite.

If you’ve listened to books by Dave Buschi before, how does this one compare?

My first book by this author. Unlikely to be the last.

What about David Stifel’s performance did you like?

He really nailed this one. Each of the charcter types , from the little girls to the Russian heavies, were honest, believable and moved the story forward.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed a few times. I don't cry much in general I suppose.

Any additional comments?

The ending is a too "neat" for my taste, and seems somewhat rushed, but aside from that quibble, this is a compelling story and well worth the credit.

Back Door Man

The storyline was confusing at first but became easy to understand as the story unfolded. I will read more books from Buschi.
