Publisher's summary

Quitting her job as a high school science teacher to join the Seattle Police Department was an easy decision for Tracy Crosswhite. Years earlier, what should have been one of the happiest days of her life instead became her worst nightmare when her younger sister, Sarah, disappeared. After the murder trial, while her family disintegrated, Tracy turned her heartbreak and her lingering questions into a passion for justice.

But people don't just become world-class detectives. If Tracy wants to uncover the truth about what happened to her sister, first she must be forged in the fires of the Police Academy, where not everyone wants her to succeed.

Nice Short Prequel to a Blockbuster Series

I am presuming you have read at least the first two Crosswhite novels. If nothing else, this reveals the beginning of the rivalry between Crosswhite and her commanding officer. I have finished the first three novels of this series and rated each of them with 5 stars. I just finished Her Final Breath for the second time.

Should you buy this short story? It is good, but certainly not neccessary. I bought it because I love the series.

wanted more

This short story would make a really good full length book. It is my #1complaint about most short stories.....it is only the first couple chapters of a good book, not a complete story.

Loved It

Wish it was longer though, or maybe a few more installments of life as a rookie before becoming a detective. Please...This was a fun read to see the backstory to nasty Lonasko and Tracy kicking a$$!!

Enjoyed the short story and characters

The scenarios in this police academy story is not unlike the experience of military women in a man’s world. Having experienced that during the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s of the past century I can vouch for the harassment and pressures that are a part of every day life. Look forward to reading more about this police officer. Great narration.

Entertaining short story

This short story was fun enough that I wish that a novel was to follow! The protagonist is a brilliant, fearless, strong woman with some skeletons in her closet. The sexist cops at the police academy have met their match. This is a fun hour of entertainment.

Too short!

It was great to get the backstory of Tracy Crosswhite after reading Her Sister’s Grave. However, it went by way too fast! I do think I’m hooked on the series now and looking forward to the next one!

Enjoyed

I had already read a few books in this story so going back and reading/hearing the beginning was enjoyable. The Crosswhite series is enjoyable.

the prequel has me hooked

short story prequel to a series of books by Robert Dugoni; a high school chemistry teacher goes to the police academy a little later in life; Tracy Crosswhite is looking like she will be a strong female character; story takes place in Washington state; yes I already bought the 1st book in the series: My Sisters Grave
