Publisher's summary

America is in the thrall of a full-scale socioeconomic breakdown. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation destroys the value of the dollar, and the population, unprepared for hardship, panics. Practically overnight, the high-technology infrastructure and chains of supply collapse, and wholesale rioting and looting grip every city. Law enforcement, transportation, electricity, fuel, and medical supplies are all in the past now, as the country staggers beneath its own weight. Lawless bands of killers roam the countryside, leaving devastation in their wake and now that the government is gone, the Constitution is at stake. Who will carry on?

In this chaotic and dangerous environment, a few families and individuals, bound together by their faith, skills, and foresight, must struggle not only to survive day by day but defend themselves against a new and vicious predator - their fellow man.

Survivors is a shockingly realistic and lightening fast thriller about the coming implosion of America as we know it. Renowned survivalist expert James Wesley, Rawles has packed this story with the cold hard facts about how to stay alive in the face of mass riots, starvation, and anarchy. His expertise lends unforgettable, authentic detail to this season's most chilling novel. Listeners will not only be entralled, they will learn invaluable lessons on how to survive the coming collapse.

like the story line

While one second after is non-christian friendly the same can not be said for Survivors. The story is good the performance of the book is good, but i have to give the overall a three star rating because of the blatant and over the top christian propaganda.

While some may say the book would be better if JW Rawles went back and deleted all christian references to the book, I would say that the quality of the book would be doubled or tripled if he removed half the reference to Christianity. Frankly as a non-christian it is insulting to have the subtext of the book be "If your not a christian your not a good person and cannot be a good person.". The author would be much better served to follow the C.S. Lewis approach to writing and be more subtle about his flag waving for Christianity.

In comparison One Second after while it has a great story is heavy on trivial facts, and is much more subtly Christian so that it can be read without you feeling the author is trying to shove Christ down your throat. While Survivor has a lot of great practical knowledge a good story but is constantly shoving Christianity in your face. It would be nice if these two authors could find a middle ground.

Not very good

I hate to have to write this, cause i LOVED patriots.

This just wasnt very good.

I get it that James Wesley values faith very very highly, and Patriots made that clear. But all his heroes have to spend as much time praying, as 'doing'.

Also, in Patriots, you really liked the attention to detail that Wesley gave to his survivors.

The attention to detail Wesley gives to his characters in Survivors is painful. He seems to need to use as many words as possible to create length, and not to move the story.

Also, he bounces around between his survivors but never really has any of them do much.

In short, again, sorry to say...Survivors is boring.

Are you a Prepper?

This book starts out extreamly well, I enjoyed the travel and struggles of the characters, but as the day to day life is developed the story seems to have a hard time of finding its footing. That said I enjoyed the book and especially in the beginning had a hard time dragging myself away from it. I felt that reviews that are overly sensitive to the fact that some of the characters are Christians were weird as this fact does not overwhealm the story but just pops up here and there in a totally natural way, there is no preaching or overarching nature to this, it is just the background of a few of the characters and it is expressed in the common fashion it should be. I felt that the ending was sudden, I was looking for more story when things seemed to just, well, end.
If you like to dabble in the Prepper world and have an affinity for that kind of news and information then you will love this book, if you like a good "what if" story from time to time you will like this book. If you read mostly self help books then this might be a dud for you.

Good Story Line

The book was good, similar story line as Patriots. The author spends to much time conveying his christian beliefs into the book. Really boring when he was describing morse code meanings. Other than that, I thought the book was good. I plan to read his others as they are released.

Great for some, not so much for others.

Although I haven't even finished the first half, I can already tell this wasn't the best choice for me. The author has a definate conservative and (christian) religious bent. As a liberal non-christian, I'm just glad that he's not as preachy as LeHaye.

More of the same...

If you liked "Patriots" for the "prepper" information, this has less... although every weapon and bullet, car and computer appearing in the book has model numbers, sizes and evaluations. If you liked it for the story, this book has a stronger story line than "Patriots"... although you do have to suspend your disbelief constantly and listen closely to follow the tangents.. If you didn't like Patriots... you won't like this. Both books are stand alone... so you don't have to read them in order. There is quite a bit of gun violence, politics and religion, very little rough language or sex. Let me summarize the books message for you... buy bullets, guns, precious metals and seeds before the crisis. During the crisis keep your gun clean, stick together and don't be afraid to shoot first. I personally learned more from and enjoyed "Alas Babylon," "One Second After" and "Jakarta Pandemic" better.

Fantastic story, hit another one out of the park

What made the experience of listening to Survivors the most enjoyable?

The plot line is fantastic, the story always keeps moving, and it is narrated very well.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The suspense is great the detail is realistic and there are always a few turns you don't see coming.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Can't beat Dick Hill, his voice is the perfect narration for JWR's story

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This book is a special treat and I would listen to it again all in one sitting. I usually listen on my way to and from work. Must admit I may have taken a little longer lunch last week while listening to it.

Any additional comments?

pay attention to the details, this is the whole point of the book.

Good end of the world book

Any additional comments?

Little to heavy on the religious under tones for my taste - but a fairly realistic look on what might happen... I'd recommend it to others.
The story line does just kind of trail off... no real ending... maybe a series of books?

Would you ever listen to anything by James Wesley, Rawles again?

Probably not.....

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator sounded like a 90 year old that was constantly drunk.... All the characters sounded the same, hard to tell them apart.

You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

it had NO redeeming qualities in it...

Any additional comments?

This sums up the book.......... blah blah bah, I'm a christian therfore I'm better than you....blah blah bah, I'm a christian therfore I'm better than you....blah blah bah, I'm a christian therfore I'm better than you.... YAWN.... No exciting fight or battle scenes. Not looking forward to the 3rd book.

Exceptional Audiobook

Survivors is the perfect complement to Rawles' first novel. The book is exceptionally well written, the storyline is extremely well developed and unfortunately very plausible. As always Dick Hill manages to bring each character to life. I enjoyed every minute of listening.
I’m looking forward to the next Rawles novel.
