Publisher's summary

Based on a true story from the early 1900s, this work of historical fiction gives life to murderer William Kleeman, a handsome young farmer from Southwestern Minnesota who courts the beautiful Maud Petri. After a quick engagement and marriage, the couple produces four children and is joined by boarder Mary Snelling, who teaches at the country school across the road.

This addictive story winds through many twists before ending in a deadly rampage that results in one of the most notorious ax murders in American history.

This audiobook is perfect for those who love true crime, suspense, and history. Perfect for book clubs and historical societies to discuss.

Worth your time and money

How difficult to write an account of a terrible old crime and make it c one alive in the yelling. The author has written this so well- and the narrator tells this tale in such a gripping Manor that is will be worth your time and money.
Fascinating.

Interesting story

Well written and worth the listen! Not sure what to make of the updates from the Kleeman family.

Well Done

The research was great! I live nearby and had to go visit these locations myself. Some of the assumptions about female characters and their thought processes was a bit misogynistic and outdated, although veiled in a “it was just the times!” air. I wish the women depicted had been given more substance.
