Publisher's Summary

Featuring a conversation with the authors!

In this spectacular father/son collaboration, Stephen King and Owen King tell the highest of high-stakes stories: What might happen if women disappeared from the world of men?

In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place....

The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain?

Set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women's prison, Sleeping Beauties is a wildly provocative, gloriously absorbing father/son collaboration between Stephen King and Owen King.

    "The torch has been passed!"

A bit heavy on man-bashing, but if you can look past the steady battering against your gender, there is a very enjoyable book here! There are whispers of all your favorite King books, yet a totally unique and new story! Hope to see a future collaboration and a new some novel by Owen. Well done!

    "King Collaboration: Fail"

Having read every Stephen King novel, I would rate this at the bottom end of the list. The cast of characters consisted mostly of hillbilly rednecks (I pitied the narrator who had to come up with a new hick twang for every new character) that were not fully developed or evocative of any emotion - empathy or antipathy - either way. The plot bounced around from one non-descript character to another with no real impending evil or ominous threat that characterizes Stephen King's classic novels. If this novel was the torch passing from Stephen to Owen King, it was more like the passing of a candle.

"Excellent narration of a decent novel"

Full disclosure: this is the first Stephen King novel I've completed. I REALLY liked the dialogue! The narrator does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. The story was pretty drawn out and took a long time to engage me. I wouldn't pay for this audiobook; and I don't know if I'd use a credit on it either (considering there are other books worth spending your money/credit on).

    "Another great King story"

A very interesting commentary on the interaction between men and women. Add a touch of the supernatural and a end of world type event and you have a great story line. Characters are interesting and the pace was perfect. Highly recommended.

"What happened to one of my favorite authors?"

I've read almost all of Stephen King's books. I was really looking forward to listening to Sleeping Beauties and thought it would be interesting to experience a father/son collaboration. The story got off to a good start. The characters were interesting. It built up some suspense (you just knew something exciting was going to happen!) And then, about 1/3 of the way in, everything started falling apart. The plot seemed to go round and round without going forward--nothing much changed. It went on and on and on...and on. But I kept going with it! Three-fourths of the way in, I was beginning to dislike ALL the characters. (It's good to have at least one to root for, but they were all very forgettable). And so, I have to admit that with 2 hours left to go (out of 25 hours 20 min.), I couldn't take it anymore. I honestly do not know what happened at the end--and I do not care. I did not listen to the end. I'm really sorry to write this kind of review, but this is the first time I've run into a brick wall with a Stephen King novel.

The only thing that saves the audible version of Sleeping Beauties is the performance by Marin Ireland, which is excellent! More than excellent! Well done for the narration!

"Double the Kings, Double the pleasure!"

Stephen King is never a disappointment, and now I have another King to read. Fast paced, never dull from the first page to the last.
