Publisher's Summary

Former Secret Service agents turned private investigators Sean King and Michelle Maxwell have seen their lives splinter around them. Michelle lies unconscious in a hospital bed after a night of suicidal violence. And Sean is forced to take on a thankless investigation into the murder of a scientist just inside the CIA's razor-wire fence near Williamsburg, Virginia.

Soon he is uncovering layers of disinformation that shields a stunning world of elite mathematicians, physicists, war heroes, spies, and deadly field agents. Amid murder, a seemingly autistic girl's extraordinary genius, and a powerful breakthrough in the realm of classified codes, Sean learns enough to put his life at risk. Now, he needs Michelle, at her best, to help stop a conspiracy of traitors operating in the shadow of the White House itself.

From Michelle's courageous struggle to defeat her long-buried personal demons to a centuries-old secret that surfaces in the heat of the action, Simple Genius pulses with stunning, high-intensity suspense. The heroes of Split Second and Hour Game are back as you've never seen them before.

Download the accompanying reference guide. And don't miss the previous exploits of this dynamic duo in Split Second and Hour Game.

    "Very disappointing for Baldacci"
What would have made Simple Genius better?

The story line was not in the ball park of believable

Would you ever listen to anything by David Baldacci again?

I generally like Baldacci, but this was one of his worst efforts. Maxwell's jaunt in a mental hospital was distracting and, in my opinion appeared to be filler. The CIA torture of an American citizen for days and days and FBI and CIA bosses condoning the behavior is beyond believable.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Spoke in a condescending tone throguhout the book.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    None.

    "Better than the 2nd book"

I found this book to be more enjoyable than the last because I felt it didn't suffer from the silly spots that plagued that book. In this book Maxwell is having a very bad time and that gets a bit trying. King and Maxwell just aren't doing it for me. I have listened to other books read by Scott Brick, some that I really enjoyed the narration of, so I don't think Scott is the issue. Though it is possible that he isn't helping the story wow me. Anyway, I went and bought every Baldacci paperback I could find after listening to Zero Day and The Innocent: A Novel. I am probably done with King and Maxwell. Still looking forward to his other books.

    "Good series to listen to."

My wife and listen to David Baldacci's books while we travel. He has a great way of weaving a story and creates interesting characters for both male and female readers/listeners. My only complaint is this... I don't understand why all audio books, not just Baldacci's, do not have male and female narrators. I know this series is an older book and series and some of the newer titles enlist both male and female narrators and it makes the story so much better and more enjoyable to listen to. That said, I would recommend any of Baldacci's books to everyone interested in good stories and characters.
