"Formula, and not a good one"

Every once in a while I run across one of these books that is California centric, they describe a world that revolves around nonsense. A couple of sexually frustrated contract killers leave a trail of bodies in an effort to silence a restaurant owner that took money to introduce her attractive servers to wealthy lawyers and record producers. Although they are in a heavily populated area nobody can touch them. All this time I thought it was hard to get a book published. If you have about 8 hours of your life you would like to throw in a dumpster then by all means listen to this book.

    "Good Listen"

Anybody that doesn't enjoy this book needs to stop reading mystery fiction. Starts quick and keeps going. Above average twists and turns and well narrated with good voices and more plausible than many I've read. I find that male narrators do women's voices better than women do men.

Get this book and have some fun.

I don't know about you, but why are there so so so many 5 star reviews. I LOVE books, but so few are 5 star.

    "Just okay"

I think it was the narration that threw this off for me, Kramer wasn't bad he just wasn't the right type of narrator. This was still a deal at $4.95.

The story wasn't too much of a stretch, mild suspension of reality. I don't think Perry's characters are as timeless as Connelly even this books feels a little dated and it is set in the last few years. What really bothered me though is the ever so slight chauvinistic take on women. I am no feminist I love Harry Bosch and he is an outright chauvinist, my objection was to a kind of underlying nudge and a wink women are all the same view. Not part of the protagonist's treatment, but the overall view of the writer.

However, the story was a decent listen if not entirely engrossing.

    "Evil-dripping characters"

What I liked most about this book was the pure evilness of several of the characters. What I liked least about this book was some untied ends at its conclusion. To say more would spoil it. In general, though, this book was a good listen and should please most readers of this genre.

So glad I have found another great series by an author I like. Michael Kramer is an excellent narrator as well. Now on to book #2!

"Perry is such a master of suspense"
    Any additional comments?

I have read five Perry books. The Butcher's Boy trilogy is by far the best, but Fidelity and Silence were surely in the running. and I enjoyed both, as well. He has an incredibly fascinating way of writing tightly would suspense. Since all five books were narrated by Michael Kramer, I cannot imaging reading a Perry book narrated by anyone else. Kramer is a master. There were four major characters in Silence, two men and two women, and Kramer does all four of them masterfully, giving each a different voice. I am always amazed by how skillfully he does the opposite sex. There was as much of a story for the bad guys, a married couple, as there was for the good guys. I actually enjoyed the bad guys more than the good guys.

"Brilliant prose for an action adventure novel"
What did you love best about Silence?

The way Mr. Perry crafts a character, with beautiful economy and a wonderful sense of social psychology is a treat.

Who was your favorite character and why?

They are all well drawn--it feels just like a movie with great casting

What about Michael Kramer’s performance did you like?

Mr. Kramer is one of the absolute best--up there with George Guidall. I really appreciate the lack of histrionic vocal gymnastics--he is tight, spare, with wonderful pace.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

With the wonderful plotting and the top flight narration, I could have listened forever!

    Any additional comments?

I have listened to over 500 books from Audible--this author/narrator combination really deserve your attention
