Publisher's summary

From Nora Roberts comes the #1 New York Times bestseller Shelter in Place (June 2018) - a powerful tale of heart, heroism...and propulsive suspense.

It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived.

The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. In the years that followed, one would dedicate himself to a law enforcement career. Another would close herself off, trying to bury the memory of huddling in a ladies' room, helplessly clutching her cell phone - until she finally found a way to pour her emotions into her art.

But one person wasn't satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait - and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.

Started terrific!

Loved the beginning half of the book. Suspenseful timely interesting enthralling even! The rest of the book was too romance novel for me - which of course is what Nora Roberts does - so if you are into that genre then you will like the whole book! January LaVoys performance is great.

Meh...

It certainly wasn’t the worst book that I have ever read but it wasn’t the best either. Who didn’t see the two main characters coming together? I would have liked a little bit more about Patricia and her liking spree.

Entertaining

Easy to follow and fast paced. Not a big mystery or thriller but a fun to listen to book.

Gripping

I think this is one of Nora Robert's best books yet. I was a little afraid that this book would have more of a political agenda, but was very pleasantly surprised that there was absolutely none of that. Just a great suspenseful story with terrifically fun characters and a really nasty villain.

Straight from the headlines

Nora Roberts deals with a tough subject that we hear about all too often...a random shooting in a public location. Her protagonists are (as always) interesting and relatable and the secondary characters add spice to the mixture. I was particularly drawn in by trying to understand how a victim deals with such a horrific situation over time. The HEA was satisfying but not rushed and the emotions were very real. There's a reason she's one of the top 10 romance writers of all time. You can't go wrong with her books...and in this one you'll go very right.

GREAT READ

I hated to put this book down.... It has a great main character who makes a life for herself and finds love along the way. Wish I was her!
