Delightful narrator!

The narrator’s voice was perfectly suited to this story. I hope we will hear more from her in future.

Well done.

This is one of my favorite books by Elizabeth Cadell. Janet Cadell Reynolds is her daughter. She is a wonderful narrator. I loved her performance.

What a treat!

This was such a fun mystery and I enjoyed every minute of it. This was my second Elizabeth Cadell book and I really want more. She is a very interesting writer and the stories are a breath of fresh air. Sometimes I read heavier books and sometimes I just want entertainment that leaves me smiling, this fit the bill.

Wonderful story and excellent narration!

I enjoyed the narration of Shadow on the Water immensely. Elizabeth Cadell’s daughter, Janet Reynolds does a wonderful job with the voices. She was the one who typed up her mother’s manuscripts from the 1950s to the 1980s, thus giving her an in depth knowledge of the book. I laughed at the clever quotes:
“All a woman really needs is a man. A man to support her, to steady her, to restrain her...” and - “He was strong on brains and death on women... he doesn’t know they’re there. That kills them!”
Theres’s a clever mystery and a really good and unexpected romance! All together, another delightful story by Elizabeth Cadell. And a big thank you to Janet Reynolds for the splendid narration!

Reading this book is a perfect antidote to a rainy day!

I've read this book several times be cause Elizabeth Cadell has created a heroine who makes a good friend any day I have time to listen. I also find her daughter's reading a thorough enhancement to the audio experience. I only wish there were still more.

Not much to like here

The next time I want to listen to a nosy busybody order everyone around, I will pick up another Elizabeth Cadell book. The reader's voice fits the story perfectly, an observation not intended as praise. The story itself is rather plodding, with lots of scatterbrained running around for no reason, and a lot of irrational behavior on display from every character. And yet it started out on such a positive note, with the main character dressing down her interfering brother for criticizing her independence and "extravagance" for spending her own money to visit her grandchild. But then she turns out to be cut from the same cloth and has no compunctions about meddling in the personal lives of complete strangers, people she met on a 3 day boat crossing from England to Portugal. The writing is amateurish, the descriptions are trite and do not really engage the listener's imagination. We never really understand the motivations of any of the characters and the ending is utterly ridiculous, but I will not reveal it, in case you decide based on other reviews to give this one a try.
