    "Not that good"

Extremely offensive language, and I was in the military. It got in the way of the story. Narrator was whiney and annoying. Will not continue with the series.

    "Not a real historical novel"
What did you like best about Semper Fi? What did you like least?

I liked some of the military customs and courtesy descriptions.
I didn't like the way it read like a harlequin romance.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Leave out most of the sex and sleaziness.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    None were especially memorable.

Was Semper Fi worth the listening time?

It was OK but I will not listen to any more in the series

    Any additional comments?

As a retired military officer I was hoping the novel was more realistic rather than A "Hardy Boys"/Girlsy sex oriented novel. Should change the series title from Semper Fi to "A Marine's WWII Romantic Trysts".

    "I'll be back for more"

For whatever reason, I thought this was non-fiction/history when I bought it. I probably jumped at an audible daily special without reading the full description. Despite a little initial surprise, I certainly wasn't disappointed. This is great historical fiction in the vein of Michael Shaara (and later, his son Jeff), and I'm glad there are 9 more books in the series to follow.

    "Nothing short of outstanding"
What made the experience of listening to Semper Fi the most enjoyable?

Character development was excellent and continues throughout the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

"Killer McCoy" perhaps because he was the first and possibly the best developed character in the series.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to the entire series and enjoyed them immensely.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    No clue

    Any additional comments?

I will not rate each book, but have read each and give very high marks. Griffin has had my attention since the Brotherhood of War series. If he puts it out, I read/listen to it.

"A nice book but not complete in itself"
If you could sum up Semper Fi in three words, what would they be?

    Nice but incomplete

Would you be willing to try another book from W. E. B. Griffin? Why or why not?

yes, I guess so, since without reading the other books of the series you get an unfinished history.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    He's a very good narrator

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No. But the Pearl Harbor and Philippines parts are very interesting

    "Author is a religious bigot!"
What would have made Semper Fi better?

I really wanted to like this book. Having been in the military and having read all the glowing reviews, I was looking forward to a great read. There are great characters in the book and great action and the writing is good, but he so often expresses such a virulent hatred for anyone that has religious beliefs and he gets on his stump about it way too much. Bigotry in any form is ugly and at times the author's ugliness made me want to puke.

Would you ever listen to anything by W. E. B. Griffin again?

    No.

What three words best describe Dick Hill’s voice?

    Versatile. Interesting. Skilled

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The author's barely disguised hatred makes me sad.

    "Super Marine and trash language."
What would have made Semper Fi better?

Super Marine and trash language. If you want to be offended and are just about comic book level of reading this book may be for you. Closest I can describe is Marine Soft Porn. I have nothing against the Military I am proud of our military and their dedication, but this is just the gutter level disgraceful portrayal of our veterans. Negative and depressing.

Would you ever listen to anything by W. E. B. Griffin again?

    Nope

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Narrator is the only positive I really like Dick Hill's narration and he's the only reason I decided to try the book.

What character would you cut from Semper Fi?

    Killer McCoy

    Any additional comments?

Yeah don't listen with any children around.

    "Still a Great Story"
Where does Semper Fi rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Many years ago I read the entire Corps series. It is every bit as good in audio. I hope Audible will do the entire Series and bring its wonderful characters to life once again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Killer McCoy

    Any additional comments?

As I mentioned earlier, I hope Audible brings this entire Series back to life.

"Great book, Great series, horrible narrator."

I read the first few books as they came out, and gave them to someone to read. Then a few years later bought them again, and re-read them. And bought the others as they were released.

I love this time in US History, and the stories are great, if maybe a bit repetitive in the re-telling of the prior books.

Eric G Dove does The Brotherhood of War series, and does a great job. Dick Hill is pretty bad. I am not sure if he has a speech impediment, ESL, or if it is something else. He sounds like a drunken version of Yogi Bear impersonating Colonel Klink from Hogan's Heroes. Every statement is emotional and passionate! He describes a bathroom with unbelievable passion. The description of a hat is an incredible experience. No one in these books has any control of their emotions. That does not seem like the military I know. I love these books and am very disappointed with the narration. I will not buy any more of them.
