Publisher's summary

Peter Kirsanow delivers a gripping, high-stakes thriller in which special operator Mike Garin faces off against a lethal Russian assassin - and a devious plot to wreak chaos in America.

Within mere weeks of thwarting a cataclysmic electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack against the United States, Michael Garin, former leader of the elite Omega special operations unit, discovers that Russia has triggered an ingenious and catastrophic backup plan. Garin's efforts to warn the administration of the new attack, however, fall on deaf ears. No one believes the Russians would initiate another strike of such magnitude so soon.

Without government support, Garin turns to three people for help: Congo Knox, a former Delta Force sniper; Dan Dwyer, the head of a sprawling military contracting firm; and Olivia Perry, an aide to the national security advisor. Yet Garin and his ad hoc team are checked at every turn by the formidable Russian assassin, Taras Bor, who is directed by an individual seemingly able to manipulate the highest reaches of the US government.

As evidence mounts that the Russian plot has been set in motion and that Bor is pivotal to its success, it's up to Garin and his team to thwart an attack that will cause the death of millions and establish a new world order.

Even better then the first...

This book is as good if not better than the first (Target Omega) book in the Mike Garin series. Although you don't have to, I would suggest listening to these in order since this book picks up where the previous book ended.
In this second book Mike Garin's nemesis is back. In the previous book Garin thwarted an attempt to set off an Emp. Unfortunately the bad guy (Toras Bor) got away. Now he's back with more funding, more men under his leadership and wicked plans he intends to inflict on the people of the US. His only fear is that Garin will intervene once again. Multiple groups of men including one called the Butcher are sent after Garin who is both the hunter and the hunted. This book is a good vs evil, America vs the Russians.
Paul Michael does a much better job narrating this book then the previous.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Mike Garin terrorism/espionage series Book 2!

Author Peter Kirsanow scores another major hit after Target Omega with SECOND STRIKE. The Russians are again the bad guys with Taras Bor continuing as the major antagonist. There is not a boring minute in this 13.5 hour novel. The plot is fast paced and the action and intense suspense are continuous. Narration is outstanding. Peter Kirsanow appears certain to be come a top level author of suspense thrillers; the quality of his plots and characters is already equal to the very best.

Superficial, Predictable, and Boring

I really wanted to like this book. Paul Michael is an excellent narrator, but the story was a boring rehash of the first book which was a boring predictable slog for me to listen to. I fell asleep multiple times trying to power through it. There are hints of a decent story here, but the plot relies on conclusory connections that are not well-established. It's almost like he took bits and pieces of other action/spy novels and put them together. This can't hold a candle to the likes of Gabriel Allon, Mitch Rapp, or John Wells. Sorry to say, but a weak book effort.

same old story, middle of the road

it's an ok military thriller. I felt like the 1st book was more believable but maybe it's just hindsight. I am disappointed when the story makes a good operator in a superhero. it gets old.

A book hard to put down.

Back to Back winners. Omega was very good and Second Strike took the story right where it left off in Omega. Ties in well with current events as well as being hard to put down. Anxious to read the next book by Kirsanow.

Book 2 as good as the first - great good over evil

Super hero lives up to accolades. Author does a wonderful and believable story of our hero over coming unbelievably difficult situations. Fun and entertaining. I highly recommend this book.

Best thriller series move over Mitch, Scott, Dewey, Court

Update: Kirsanow's Vol 3 is going to come out in 2019 and I don't think he has plans to stop. Best thriller series move over Mitch Rapp, Scott Harvath, Colt Raynor, Dewey Andreas, Court Gentry, etc. No one writes from the POV of the bad guys like Kirsanow. That said, there are few better writer/narrator combos than Paul Michael (aka the guy who read FEARLESS) paired up with PK. Excellent depth, frightening pace, interesting plot. This is a no-brainer, take it from a guy with 1300+ books in my library, mostly military history and suspense thrillers, Kirsanow is writing top 3 all-time genre novels... this series is awesome awesome awesome!!!!

Not too bad

Listened to them back to back and found them to be good entertainment, and for the most part not too over the top (as some in the action genre can be). There was a couple of things that I had to eye roll at (like waltzing up, disarming and tying up 6 cops who are already holding guns). A good job was done developing the two main opponents, they were of course super human but made to be that way in a more realistic approach, to include weaknesses. I suspect there will be another, and I’ll jump on it ASAP. Delivery was exceptionally done by Mr. Michael, but then he’s a natural professional who is at the top of the list in his field. Good plot development, introspective in ways that you don’t see coming, and that are not only plausible but realistic as well. Mr. Kirasnow now is now on my list of preferred authors, up there with Clancy, Flynn, Thor, Greenery, Mills, DeMille and others. Thank you both to author and narrator for a good listen.

Excellent follow-up Book!

I’ve enjoyed both of the Omega books by Kirsanow, Michael Garin reminds me of Mitch Rapp, in a good way. Would recommend these two books to anyone who enjoys Vince Flynn.
