A very disappointing read.

Not having read any other books by this author I was confused by the frequent references to previous characters and events. The story moved at a snail's pace and the final outcome was ridiculously contrived. The main character was smug, arrogant and utterly annoying, so much so that I was hoping that she would ultimately be proved wrong. This, however, would hardly be possible as most of the police were portrayed as incompetent, devious or corrupt.

OK but a little similar to previous volumes

Would you consider the audio edition of Saturday Requiem to be better than the print version?

can't say only ever listen to books very rarely read an actual book

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Carlson, and Joseph, although they didn't feature quite so much this time, if there is going to be a Sunday, and I hope there will be I think Frieda needs to get a bit of OOOmph

Have you listened to any of Beth Chalmers’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes, up there with the best, she has such a lovely reading voice..

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, not at all I like to savour the stories from Nicci French

Any additional comments?

Yes, not as good as previous instalments a few similarities to the storyline, definitely trailed off towards the end, and a bit of a mediocre ending to be honest

Disappointed

What would have made Saturday Requiem better?

It was probably my mistake for expecting the kind of Nicci French stories that I've read in the past, which were full of intrigue, underlying threats and suspense. This wasn't. There were too many references to previous novels about the main character which is annoying when you haven't read tany of the other Freida Klein novels. I missed the dark, menacing and oppressive atmosphere of works such as Under the Skin and The Memory Game.

Would you ever listen to anything by Nicci French again?

Only those that don't feature Freida Klein.

really good listen!

loved this book, kept me engaged all the way. Interesting characters, well rounded. Even though this was the first book by this author that I have read it didn't atter that it was part of a series. the notes given in the story kept me up to date with the plot. loved it!

Clever, moving, tense, brilliant!!

Would you listen to Saturday Requiem again? Why?

Maybe, but just to freshen my mind before listening to the next episode that hopefully won't be that long off!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Freda, because it's her story...
Closely followed by Dean Reeve (?spelling) which might sound odd but because he's always there in a sinister, silent way. Makes me shiver just thinking about him..

Have you listened to any of Beth Chalmers’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes, all the previous Frieda Klein books. She's brilliant, she "is" Freda in my mind, along with the other characters, just wouldn't be the same with anyone else reading.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Hannah taking Frieda's hand towards the end.
Also the very end... !!!

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for the next book in this series!

Yet again an excellent Nicci French crime novel

Another excellent book in the series. The length of these books makes them ideal for audio performance. Again, the narration was spot on.

Saturday Requiem? Don't know why it's called that! Maybe I missed something!?

First book I've had from this author, I really enjoyed it, very easy and engaging right from the start, I'm sure this will be my first of many from this author! Loved it

Did not realise!

Did not realise when I bought this in the Daily Deal that this was the 6th in a series! Really enjoyed it though due to the above felt like I was missing something, that will teach me to check first! Enjoyed it so much I have just bought the first in the series.

Wow.

Stunning. Two hours after finishing this book, I'm still in its grip. This is the most engaging novel I've listened to in a very long while enhanced by a truly superb narrator.

Amazing 6th book !!!!!

Loved this book, I've waited ages for it and it hasn't disappointed.
I do not, however, like this narrator. Her voice grates on my ears. The accents were poor and overall it was not an enjoyable listen.
The book though? Fabulous.

Brilliant as always with Frieda Klein

Beth Chalmers is a fantastic narrator. The whole story, characters and performance came together brilliantly.

Disappointing

I usually enjoy Nicci French's books but as one in a series I don't think it stood alone .

Good plot, not first in series

It was an interesting, engaging plot, although it is evident this is not a stand alone novel, as characters were referred to without explanation or development, and references made to past events that were obviously from previous books. The narrator reads well, but was a bit chipmunk-ish, and the male characters were not very distinguishable. A good listen nonetheless.

Bog standard

Adequately entertaining story. But the narrators voice was nails on a chalkboard!!!! Soooo irritating! Didn't make me turn it off but it did irritate me throughout
