Publisher's summary

Another classic Poirot story brought to life by Hugh Fraser.

Beautiful young Elinor Carlisle stood serenely in the dock, accused of the murder of Mary Gerrard, her rival in love. The evidence was damning: only Elinor had the motive, the opportunity and the means to administer the fatal poison.

Yet, inside the hostile courtroom, only one man still presumed Elinor was innocent until proven guilty: Hercule Poirot was all that stood between Elinor and the gallows…

Absolutely stunning

The story is an absolute Christie classic, filled with clever, intricate twists and stunning characterisation. The ending is a master stroke in detective fiction, and David Suchet’s capacity for accents and dramatisation is glorious. Highly recommend this one!

I'm keen to read more Christie for the setting, mystery, and characters.

Have you listened to any of David Suchet’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

David Suchet is excellent - I'm choosing Christie novels based on his brilliant performances! This one did not disappoint.

Hercule Poirot reads!

The story is a repeat-listen, the narrator is new. David Suchet makes this an absolute pleasure to listen to… well, apart from his attempt at a Kiwi accent (:D he sounded more like an Aussie).
The mystery is good, I couldn’t remember whodunit and didn’t manage to figure it out until a good chunk of the way through the book. As an aside, what on earth attracted Elinor to Roddy beats me, no wonder Mary didn’t want him.
