Publisher's Summary

A botched drone strike pushes the United States and China to the brink of war.

As dawn rises over Tripoli, counter-terrorism operative Blake Carver arrives ahead of a planned drone strike on an extremist stronghold. But his plan to extract an embedded CIA operative turns disastrous when the mis-targeted attack reduces the Chinese Embassy to rubble.

All signs point to an inside job, and Carver finds himself on the wrong end of an internal investigation. Forced into exile, he watches helplessly as Beijing erupts in riots, an American diplomat is murdered and cyber attacks are unleashed on Wall Street. The two superpowers teeter on the brink of all-out war.

With only the help of a renegade hacker and an old flame with powerful friends, Carver must act alone to thwart the most ingenious conspiracy the world has ever known.

Discover why critics call the Blake Carver Series "Astonishing," "Chilling" and "Impossible to put down."

Great Thriller

"Rogue Empire" begins with breaking news from Tripoli, a tragic accident, the US has mistakenly directed a missile to foreign allies... the story develops into a suspenseful thriller from there with the presence of an American intelligence agent, Kyra in Tripoli, fleeing for her life. A modern day epic thriller, "Rogue Empire" will keep you on the edge of your seat. Kyra "never imagined that becoming a field operative would entail becoming a mail order bride for one of the world's most wanted terrorists." The author enlists charismatic characters, including Blake Carver, another intelligence operative, as well as intriguing scenarios. It is clear the author knows his way around the world - Tripoli, the White House, rural Virginia, Las Vegas, and more. The author leaves the listener waiting for Book 2, as Blake Carver must go to London... Recommended listening.

Paul Christy was excellent with the delivery of the story

You won't be disappointed

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I probably wouldn't have picked this book out for myself, but when it was offered, I figured I would try it. I like suspense, but this one was way more than I expected. The story plot is very believable and exciting that you won't be able to put it down. The narrator did a great job keeping the listener's interest as well.

Made me exceed the speed limite

Would you try another book from William Tyree and/or Paul Christy?

I would definitely try another William Tyree novel and I hope it's narrated by Paul Christy. I feel the narration matched the tone of the book perfectly.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Just the right amount of a twist in the ending... I thought I picked up some forewarning of what was to come. I was wrong.

What does Paul Christy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Paul Christy brought just the right amount of emotion and personalized the characters for me. Some narrators go too far in attempting to vocalize characters. Paul Christy has a subtle way of making each character identifiable without losing my belief.

Could you see Rogue Empire being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

It would be perfect for a Netflix type series. The lead would have to be played by someone with grit.

Great Story, Great Characters

The plot of the book includes many of the elements you would expect in an international thriller. Kidnapping, espionage, murders, explosions etc. It was all there and then some. What really made the book great for me were the well developed and well portrayed characters. Even the dog had me rooting for him! I will definitely go back and listen to the other books in this series.

I was provided a free copy of this audio book in exchange for my honest review. In my honest opinion, it is well worth your time and money.

Not Just Another Spy/Adventure Story

“Rogue Empire” is a straight-out action thriller and a part of the Blake Carver series written by William Tyree. I enjoyed the audiobook edition and it was well narrated by Paul Christy who is well match for this story. This is not just another adventure novel but has complex plot lines involving intrigue, kidnapping, and spies, and counter-terrorism, this book has all of those for you. It also has those personal elements that hook you into the stork and the series. Rogue Empire has an exceptional story that takes you on an exciting trip with an unexpected twist. A note: this story is rather complex and fast moving so you will want to set aside time closely.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
Note: When selecting books to read or listen to for reviews I try and select authors and stories that interest me. Sometimes I am fortunate and other times not so fortunate. Either way, I try to review the books with integrity.

If you like Jason Bourne and Homeland...

If you could sum up Rogue Empire in three words, what would they be?

Intriguing, Chilling, Edge-of-seat.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Got reminded of Jason Bourne. Sadly the last movie wasn't that good. Looking forward to the next Kingsmen movie.

Any additional comments?

I received a free copy of this book from the author / narrator / publisher and I'm leaving an unbiased review.

I love international espionage stories. LOVE them. So, I was superbly intrigued by this book's synopsis. And I'm glad that it didn't disappoint. The book opens with a blast and the pace just keeps getting better and better from then on. There's not a dull moment and all the situations are hauntingly plausible. The thought that this could indeed be a possibility if things do go horribly wrong sends chills down my spine. (For a real life example, read about Cuban Missile Crisis). The author does a brilliant job of painting a similarly intriguing chain of events that lead to a satisfying finale.

I've found a new series rivaling Clancy & Ludlum

What made the experience of listening to Rogue Empire the most enjoyable?

Discovering Blake Carver character for the first time was made into non-stop listening by the narration of Paul Christy. His steady read led the listener through a sometimes complex web of characters - and his foreign language snippets was impressive.

What did you like best about this story?

The excitement began immediately with an event that could have led to all out war for the United States, China, and Japan. Blake Carver navigates through false leads without jumping to conclusions. And I like how William Tyree lets the listener (or reader) in on what's happening before the characters discover the truth.

Which scene was your favorite?

There were many memorable scenes, but for me it was when Carver was being pursued while he was trying to relax at his parents' home in Arizona.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the man who leaked info to the villains about how to manipulate an American drone strike was conversing with Carver in a bar. His nervous behavior foreshadowed his ultimate fate. Tyree manages to make us feel sorry for the man that had betrayed his country.

Any additional comments?

I welcomed the opportunity to listen to this audiobook after it was provided to me to review. As a long-time Audible listener I believe that the combination of Tyree's story and Christy's narrations rates it among the best I've heard.
