Its cool gulf breezes lured him from a life of danger. Its dark undercurrents threatened to destroy him. After 10 years of living life on the edge, it was hard for Doc Ford to get that addiction to danger out of his system. But spending each day watching the sun melt into Dinkins Bay and the moon rise over the mangrove trees, cooking dinner for his beautiful neighbor, and dispensing advice to the locals over a cold beer lulled him into letting his guard down.
When a body is found floating in the mangroves of Biscayne National Park, Special Agent Kurt Hunter has his first real case. He’s not looking for the spotlight or notoriety - he’s had both with disastrous results. But that seems unavoidable as the trail leads him to South Beach, and his introduction to the culture there is anything but comfortable. Follow Kurt through this new world as he unearths a crooked family's greed to solve the case.
It's easy to stay invisible in the Florida Keys - until it's not. Mac Travis is trying to live the Keys lifestyle: fishing, diving, and enough salvage work to pay his bills. But trouble has a way of finding him.
Introducing a new anti-hero. Meade Breeze lives on the far outskirts of society with no visible means of support. He survives on his wits and a meager income derived from selling home-grown dope to suburban housewives and home-brewed rum to bums in the park. He's also on the run from his past misdeeds. In the backcountry of the Florida Keys, you can see and hear trouble coming for miles in any direction. That is, if you're paying attention.
Jesse McDermitt lives in the backcountry and very little happens near him that he's not fully aware of. During a quiet moment, he watches a slow-moving shrimp trawler as it serenely cruises by, barely visible on the horizon at the edge of the three-mile limit.
The tranquility of the moment is shattered when the trawler is suddenly demolished in an enormous explosion. What caused the explosion? And why was a woman from Jesse's past on board?
To find the answers to these questions and more, Jesse and friends will work from Miami to Key West, then across the water to Fort Myers. When the bad guys hit too close to home, Jesse retaliates. Furiously.
Author Wayne Stinnett has now released 12 novels in this series along with 3 novels in the Charity Styles series in three years. These novels are character driven suspense mysteries which tend, in my opinion, to deal excessively on the love life of Jesse McDermitt with his continuing string of girl friends. In any case, author Stinnett has done a great job of fully developing the several key characters in the series. The series is set in the Florida keys. Nick Sullivan does a wonderful job of narrating all of Stinnett's audio novels.

I love the Jesse McDermitt novels. I found myself shouting “Careful Jesse!” I get so immersed in the Books.
I’ve read every “Jesse” and “Charity” book you’ve written, and NEVER been disappointed. Love the audible option! Please keep them coming, Wayne.
I am a devoted fan of Wayne Stinnett’s and ALWAYS get the recorded version AFTER reading the printed version. I have also purchased signed copies of most of Wayne’s books.
The recorded versions always allow me to get further insight into the story line, and have the added benefit of having good listening material while driving on long road trips.
The Rusty Anchor Bar & Grill song at the end is fantastic.
I love the action & diving and boating details too. Nick does a great Jamaican accent. Eric's song at the end sounded good, I like it. Wayne is one of my all time favorite authors. I love his stories & the world he created.
Just love the series. Have both read and listened to all of them. Feels like I'm right there on the ocean with Jesse.
Bonus song by Eric Stone was wonderful.
