Always a good story

Excellent storytelling by narrator Luke Daniels. His wide variety of vocal characters is the best I've heard.. Luke brings the wonderful stories of Paul Levine to life. Always a entertaining and surprising.

Great Story!

Paul Levine never disappoints, another great story. One difference is that this story was not told in the first person like subsequent volumes. It was good for sure and funny, and a real page turner, but I missed that little connection. I buy the Audible versions and I have to give HUGE kudos to the very talented Luke Daniels, the guy is the best narrator ever! Highly recommend this excellent series!

I love the series!

This book has a little too much blatantly violence and bloody killings for my personal taste. Jake needs to find a pretty girl and settle down. Then he can solve the problems of the world and keep himself and his lady safe!!

I enjoyed this book, adventures in the Hawaiian Islands filled with murder and corruption.

Disappointing - not true to the ongoing character

I can’t see our character Jake demonstrating such character flaws. It’s disappointing when an author would create a story that makes me ashamed of our Jake. No matter how young and naive you are, a guy with a law degree and a strong sense of right and wrong wouldn’t struggle with anything but sorrow at seeing the truth.

The narrator's Spanish and Spanish-like accent were atrocious. Why couldn't Brilliance Audio have hired a Hispanic narrator?

suspense

I felt it was a bit wordy at times but it did hold my interest after I got into it, I was off to a rough start.

OK suspense thriller, but disappointing!!

Riptide has the same type of clever and funny lines and situations as other novels by Paul Levine, but most of the novel is lazy and lethargic. I expect better of Paul Levine. This is my 12th Paul Levine legal thriller in audio format. But Riptide is not really a legal thriller at all unless one defines legal mystery/thriller as any novel that has a lawyer as protagonist. There is a client, but there is no legal case. The client could have hired any person of the street to do the job; he did not need a lawyer.

Narration by Luke Daniels is outstanding,

THE WORLD OF SURFING

Everything anyone would ever want to know about surfing is in this story. Hawaii and Miami are thrown in for good measure.

Lassiter is No Travis MaGee

Ever since the great John D. MacDonald passed in 1986, I have been searching for a replacement the noble Travis Magee. Early on I thought that Paul Levine’s Jake Lassiter would come close but the Lassiter of book five is the same character in book one. Lassiter’s lack of evolution limits the plot as well as any expectation that Lassiter will form lasting relationships similar to Magee’s Meyer.
