Publisher's summary

In Rescued, David Rosenfelt again delights listeners with the charm and wit they’ve come to expect. Even the most fervent fans of the sardonic Andy Carpenter and his team will be enthralled by this latest case, where the stakes have never been higher.

Defense lawyer Andy Carpenter is reluctant to take on any more cases. He’d much rather spend his time working for his dog rescue organization, the Tara Foundation, than find himself back in a courtroom. However, when a truck carrying more than 70 dogs from the South to the rescue-friendly Northeast turns up with a murdered driver, Andy can’t help but get involved.

Of course Andy is eager to help the dogs, many of whom come to the Tara Foundation while awaiting forever homes - it’s the man accused of murder who he has a problem defending. The accused just happens to be his wife Laurie’s ex-fiance; her tall, good looking, ex-Marine ex-fiance. Even though he acknowledges having argued with the victim, he swears that he is not a killer, and though he would rather not, Andy has to admit he believes he's telling the truth.

For Andy, even with dozens of successful cases behind him, this case that his wife insists he take may prove to be his most difficult.

Not the Best Andy Carpenter; but Gardner’s a Star

This is clearly in David Rosenfelt’s wheelhouse; always entertaining - and Grocer Gardner once again shows he IS Andy Carpenter. This Carpenter, however, is too short and below his usual standard. But we’ll still wait for the next installment.

Good Ol’ Andy.

Another hit, Andy is up to his usual antics only this time he is feeling a little jealous when Laurie’s ex shows up, but not to worry Andy’s charm and goofiness prevail. I wish we had seen more of the gang in this story. Andy has a knack for digging up the bad guys secrets and they just don’t like it. This was another big conspiracy type story, I tend to like the ones that are closer to home verses saving the world types. Narrator rocks as usual and he makes Andy such a fun guy, someone I would want to be friends with.

You just have to love Andy and his gang

This is a little below the usual standards for the Andy Carpenter series. I love all of the characters and most of the stories. I'm putting this one tiny star lower than usual, as it's not as filled out as usual. I would never miss a Carpenter novel, and wish he'd keep on writing them forever. I suppose he gets tired of his characters, but hey, he shouldn't have created such appealing people and introduced them to us. It's all his fault! I'm rarely interested in his off-series books - they rarely have the cadence and interest of this series. We'll humor David, but we just want more Andy and pals.

Grover Gardner is the perfect reader for this series. He sounds exactly right and is excellent - perfect pitch on all accounts.

Andy Carpenter rides again

I have listened to the whole series and pre-ordered Rescued. It was typical of the rest of the series with the same general plot and humor. This is my favorite series but I wish he would do an Andy Carpenter book with a new twist of some type. Almost all his cases involve the FBI with some serious national consequences. This is starting to seem to routine and unrealistic. I would like to see Andy Carpenter, with his humor, the legal scenario, and of course the dogs but with a more realistic plot without the FBI and national consequences. I gave it 4 stars.

Fun Listen

In the last year, I have read or listened to all the Andy Carpenter books. The plots are interesting but the characters make the novel... the dogs too! The dry humor keeps it fun. Looking forward to more of the series. Grover Gardner is perfect as narrator for this group of characters. Thumbs up.

Did not fail

I love David Rosenfelt’s sense of humor and prose. The fact that his main character lives golden retrievers encouraged my interest in Rosenfelt’s writing. I want him to know I have the best golden retriever in the universe. Sorry Tara.
