Publisher's summary

Eerily attuned to one another, twins Regina and Renata are so identical that even their mother can’t tell them apart. Then tragedy strikes: A vicious attack leaves one twin dead and the other so traumatized that she turns totally inward, incapable of telling anyone what happened or even who she is. She remains lost to the world, until the day Mark, a family friend, comes to visit - and the young woman utters her first intelligible word.

As she recovers, still with no memory of the past, her nightmares grow steadily more frightful, followed by wild fits of hysteria and dark mood swings. Her strange outbursts seem to coincide with the grisly serial murders that have begun plaguing Seattle. Could she be the killer? Determined to dispel his suspicion, Mark stakes out her home. The unholy sight he witnesses one night will haunt his soul for the rest of his life....

Different from the rest of Edding's

First off I feel like this book gets a lot of negative reviews because it's not standard Eddings. There is no new world. No magic. No evil God. It's written in first person and in two counties. What I love about this story is that there is a challenge to write a non fantasy after they have become a success.

The story deals with a girl who lost her twin to rape/murder and must find a way out of the "bug house" that she finds herself in. The story is a tad obvious if you know how to read a foreshadow.

What I love most is that it's a happy and yet sad ending. No one dies and yet the main character has a major loss to deal with in his life. It's the most unfair ending I think Eddings has ever written.

Excellent!

Where does Regina's Song rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Up towards the top. Of course, I'm a fan of Eddings, so I am prejudiced.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes and no. I have read the book numerous times, so I knew what was going on, yet, mr. Berman's reading is such that I really got into the story. Thoroughly enjoyable.

What does Fred Berman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voices and accents were pretty good. He also gave emotion to the characters, as well as drawing out their personalities.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Smiled a lot.

Any additional comments?

You folks need to have this Berman fellow narrate The Losers, and especially High Hunt, both by Eddings. He would do a very nice job on them, I think.

Amazing!!!!

I have been a David Eddings fan for years. I have read and listened to all the books related to Belgarath and Belgairian so many times I have them almost memorized. I have never noticed this book before and was skeptical about it. But once started as usual he kept my interest to a totally amazing story. To say that it choked me up at the end is a slight understatement. I WILL add this to my favorites and listen to it again. I definitely recommend this book to anyone that loved David eddings or anyone that loves murder mysteries

Thank you Mr. Eddings!!

Terry

meh

Story was a bit predictable and sounded like it was written by someone who has never lived in Seattle

A solid "meh"

This was a pick for my book club and it took me all month to slog through it.
The story is EXTREMELY predictable right from the start and very formulaic. The dialog is just terrible. The characters are poorly developed, unrelatable, and, frankly, unlikable.
The only thing this has going for it is the decently okay narration. I would have had to DNF this of not for it.

Disappointing

Mostly it’s about some guy “Mark” and his day-to-day musings and mundane activities. Incredibly tedious and boring. Occasionally he helps the “Regina” character. I was hoping for a suspenseful mystery with a psychological bent. Did not happen.

Also the derogatory comments about the mentally challenged and suffering of people in asylums is so offensive. Incredibly insensitive.

very good albeit a little predictable.

I liked it. well written, entertaining. kind of wish it got deeper into the psychology. maybe came down on one side or the other at the end. perhaps be a little more mysterious. it was kind of obvious where it was headed. knew the who and the why. the how was interesting though. I'd reccomend it. it's fairly tame and easy to listen to for any age that is comfortable with mention of murder and rape with very few gory details. sad in parts but an over all feel good story.
