Publisher's summary

From New York Times best-selling author J. A. Jance comes an all-new novella, in which Sheriff Joanna Brady and investigator Ali Reynolds join forces to solve a crime that has hit dangerously close to home.

Sheriff Joanna Brady has a lot on her plate - she is up for reelection as sheriff and pregnant with her third child, and her eldest is packing up to leave for college. Then Joanna is woken in the middle of the night by a call reporting a motor vehicle accident. Her mother and stepfather's RV ran off the road at high speed and hit the pillar of an overpass.

Something about the accident seems suspicious, though, and when Joanna gets a call from Ali Reynolds, a journalist turned investigator, she accepts her offer to help. They come up with a plan to find out who was responsible...even if that person is not the villain they expected.

Intriguing

I recently read Jance’s novella “No Honor Among Thieves.” At the end of that story Joanna Brady discovers she is pregnant. This novella picks up from the ending of the No Honor novella. Again Joanna receives the middle of the night call but this time it is personal. Her parents have been in an auto accident. Joanna thinks the accident is suspicious and begins to investigate. Ali Reynolds joins her in the investigation. I was impressed with the ending of the story.

The book is well written. J. A. Jance is a fantastic writer. I gather this novella is setting up the new book “Downfall.” Jance has an interesting way to weave her plots that keeps the reader focused. The author builds strong characters and continues to develop them from book to book. The problem with the novella is it is too short. I cannot wait to read the new book.

Hillary Huber does an excellent job narrating the book. Huber has narrated a number of the Brady series books. Huber is a voiceover artist and is an award winning audiobook narrator.

FAST PACED AND ENGAGING

Would you consider the audio edition of Random Acts to be better than the print version?

I'm sure. It was well done and didn't slow down for a minute. Hillary Hubar did a fantastic job.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Joanna Brady - of course. Tough, loving and pregnant.

Have you listened to any of Hillary Huber’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't know. Has she done the Joanna Brady series?

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

THE GRIEVING DAUGHTER, PREGNANT WIFE AND TOUGH SHERIFF - JOANNA BRADY.

Narrator

I enjoyed the story but the narrator was horrible, she sounded fake like a computer.

Disappointed

I was disappointed in the story. The conclusion did not work for me.
I have read all of JA Jance's books and this was probably my least favorite.

Short but good!

Very well done, but ended too soon! Would like to see more development of the protagonists background and family reaction. Maybe this will get picked up in the next full length book.

Not worth the money

Three chapter book! Really! The story was shallow and I could have wrote this while doing laundry. I will most likely not read another book by this author.
