Publisher's summary

Las Vegas is a city of contradictions: seedy and glamorous, secretive and wild, Vegas attracts people of all kinds - especially those with a secret to hide, or a life to leave behind. It's the perfect location for Lester Olsen's lucrative business. He gets to treat gorgeous, young women to five-star restaurants, splashy shows, and limo rides - and then he teaches them how to kill.

Private Jack Morgan spends most of his time in Los Angeles, where his top investigation firm has its headquarters. But a hunt for two criminals leads him to the city of sin - and to a murder ring that is more seductively threatening than anything he's witnessed before. Private Vegas brings James Patterson's Private series to a sensational new level.

Not Patterson's Best Work

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. I felt the storyline lacked substance and imagination. I've heard all these stories before. Not familiar with Maxine Paetro so I can't comment of that.. I really enjoyed the first Private book and was expecting great things from this one. Two men from a foreign country that kill and rape women, but get diplomatic immunity; an employee of Private that is tried for murdering an old girl friend, and then there is the continuing dysfunctional relationship between the twin brothers. I find it difficult to believe that twin brothers could really cause the other so much pain.

Would you recommend Private Vegas to your friends? Why or why not?

Not this time. Same reasons as stated above.

Did Jay Snyder do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Snyder did a good job with what he had to wok with. His attempt to make the book more mellow dramatic than it was did not succeed.

Do you think Private Vegas needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Absolutely not. Only a part of the story actually took place in Las Vegas and there wasn't much left at the end of the book to work with.

Any additional comments?

The novel lacked feeling and sensitivity and the characters seemed shallow and forced. I was on a lengthy road trip and it served it's purpose. It kept my mind off the long stretches of open roads.

Another "Private" Disappointment

I love this concept BUT.... This was my 4th listen in the Private series.... and will likely be my last. I love the concept of the exclusive high-end celebrity security firm and Book One delivered but not the past three. This one has nothing to do with Las Vegas.

Do Patterson / Paetro churn these out over a long week-end? I'll stick w/ Michael Bennett and the Murder Club.

Worst of the best

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not nearly as good as the other Private books

Would you ever listen to anything by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro again?

Absolutely! Rest of the series is good

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The sub-plots weren't exciting or carry the normal impact!

Could you see Private Vegas being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No. Much better choices!

Any additional comments?

The conflict between the twins should be a sub plot, not the main plot! It is not what got me hooked on the series! If this was your first Private audio book, it probably would be your last!

Why was this book called Private Vegas?

The title has no connection to the content of the book. The bulk of the story takes place in LA. Less than a third is set in Vegas or even focused on the Vegas located characters. There was little actual investigation or mystery. The focal bad guys of this book (who were in Beverly Hills NOT Las Vegas) weren't ultimately stopped by Private. There characters were interesting but their story lacked a satisfying resolution. Jack proved to be the worst boss ever by sending a novice investigator to work undercover with ZERO back up. The bulk of the story wasn't driven by Private employees.

In addition to the issues with the plot the ending was very abrupt. I initially thought my file had been truncated. But then the sample chapter from NYPD Red started playing so I figured that must have been the end. As a book ending this was ultimately unsatisfying. But it held my attention on my commute.

I really enjoyed Private LA, Private Games, Private Berlin and Private Down Under so I may not drop the series altogether but I don't think I'll bother with any of the LA based books again.

Finally a Private with Jack Morgan again!

Plot line about Delrio confusing. If Private is so good, how come they could not solve the case themselves. Even I was able to solve it.

Classic Private

It's great to have Jack back as the main character. I'm definitely looking forward to the next one - hopefully soon!

Ending

The ending was a surprise! I kept wondering what was going to happen with one of the subjects.

Fine narration. Story was good.

Enjoyed it for a drive time book. Not one I'll revisit. Really enjoyed the narration.

Just ok

Not as good as some of the other #Private books. None of the stories within the story were intriguing or really had me feel any emotions for the characters

A big disappointment.

I've read a couple other of the Private series and liked them. This is nothing like them. Completely disjointed right from the start, too many competing story lines. And then, it just stops. Still nothing tied together, most lines still going with no resolution at all. If this had been the first Patterson book I'd read, I'd never read another.
