Publisher's summary

Private Berlin has the extraordinary pace and international sophistication that has powered The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Patterson's number one best seller The Postcard Killers.

In Europe's most dangerous city.

Chris Schneider is a superstar agent at Private Berlin, Germany headquarters for the world's most powerful investigation firm. He keeps his methods secret as he tackles Private's most high-profile cases—and when Chris suddenly disappears, he becomes Private Berlin's most dangerous investigation yet.

An investigator is searching.

Mattie Engel is another top agent at Private Berlin, gorgeous and ruthlessly determined—and she's also Chris's ex. Mattie throws herself headfirst into finding Chris, following leads to the three people Chris was investigating when he vanished: A billionaire suspected of cheating on his wife, a soccer star accused of throwing games, and a nightclub owner with ties to the Russian mob. Any one of them would surely want Chris gone—and one of them is evil enough to want him dead.

And she's after more than the truth.

Mattie's chase takes her into Berlin's most guarded, hidden, and treacherous places, revealing secrets from Chris's past that she'd never dreamed of in the time they were lovers. On the brink of a terrifying discovery, Mattie holds on to her belief in Chris—in the face of a horror that could force all of Europe to the edge of destruction and chaos.

James Patterson has taken the European thriller to a masterful new level with Private Berlin, an adrenaline-charged, spectacularly violent, and sexy novel with unforgettable characters of dark and complex depths. Private Berlin proves why Patterson is truly the world's number one best-selling author.

Violent and gruesome

The story was tight but the details of killings was too much and too graphic. That seems to be a current trend. How gruesome and hateful can a person be and the author wants to paint visuals you cannot unhear , Unsee etc. I know the inhumanity of man is beyond understanding. I still like it better with less description. The general story, however, was interesting and about an era and place that was new to me.

Dependable

Would you consider the audio edition of Private Berlin to be better than the print version?

As a fan of James Patterson and the ability to sit and read a book in one sitting, I have enjoyed the "Private" addition to his stable of story lines. True to form, the story matures quickly, maintains your level of interest and has just enough twists to keep you from guessing too much about the conclusion. All in all, a well received installment in the "Private" collection.

Good Tour of Berlin

If you could sum up Private Berlin in three words, what would they be?

Twists and Turns

Who was your favorite character and why?

None, all were good.

What about January LaVoy and Ari Fliakos ’s performance did you like?

Good accents

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The last scene in the orphanage was good drama and suspense.

Any additional comments?

Pleasant international (european) flavor for Patterson books. I also liked Private London for the same reason. Looking forward to more of the same

Excellent performance

The narrators were superb, the story intense, and the ending perfect. Make this one you listen too as the narrators really make the story come alive.

Liked the story, not crazy about the reader

Would you consider the audio edition of Private Berlin to be better than the print version?

I have only listened the audio book, not able to compare. Probably should read so as to make the comparison.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Private Berlin?

Many memorable moments, Cris' death in the slaughter house, spooky. The car chase scene was easy to visualize brought about by the many twists and turns in the story line. The Private Berlin office was graced with only a few moments of Jack Morgan expertise.

What does January LaVoy and Ari Fliakos bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I can't say I'm crazy about the readers when comparing to other audio book readers. Maybe better choices available. Ms. LaVoy was not believable in the characters changes. Mr. Fliakos character was annoying, However, overall, did enjoy the audio book,

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would find any audio book difficult to listen to in one sitting, but did listen to often as I performed my exercise program.

A bit darker than the others

The narrators did a great job. I hated hearing the mail voice, but that's a compliment to the narrator.
I feel this was a bit too dark and graphic, and i'm not sensitive.
But i rather enjoy mystery and plot twists and puzzles.
I hope the rest of the books are better again.
