Publisher's summary

Few can rival attorney Andy Carpenter's affection for golden retrievers, especially his own beloved Tara. After he astonishes a New Jersey courtroom by successfully appealing another golden's death sentence, Andy discovers that this gentle dog is a key witness to a murder that took place five years before. Andy pushes the boundaries of the law even further as he struggles to free an innocent man by convincing an incredulous jury to take canine testimony seriously. It will take all the tricks Andy's fertile mind can conceive to get to the bottom of a remarkable chain of impersonations and murder, and to save a dog's life - and his own - in the process.

Brilliant, Funny, a GREAT READ

If you're looking for something to take your mind off stress, Rosenfelt is a fantastic author to turn to. Andy Carpenter is hilarious, and the reader REALLY enhances his character.

If you're new to the Andy Carpenter series, of course it's preferable to start at the beginning. You may end up spoiling plots from earlier novels by starting this late. Still, Play Dead is also easily read as a first-timer, you don't need to know what happened earlier to start at this point in the series.

But I don't recommend it. Once you read one Andy Carpenter book, you'll want to read another. Trust me.

Great Fun Whodunit

This is the 3rd Andy Carpenter book that I have listened to. I wish there were more available.
The narrator does a great job and 'is' the character.

More please.

Lot of fun

This was a very enjoyable 8 hours of listening. I found myself smiling to myself and felling better about the day while I listned to this book. The story and mystery was good but the reader and the pros were outstanding. I hope audible has more from this author and reader!

He's Done it Again!

I absolutely LOVE Rosenfelt's books. I wish he would write faster! They're well written, great character development, great story and most of all they're really funny. Plus, the narrator is perfect!

Top Notch

Humor, suspense, intrige, and humor. Oh, did I say humor twice? Yes I did and for a reson. David Rosenfelt is brillantly funny. This and all other of the Andy Carpenter novels are in the same league. The narration of Grover Gardner also makes you feel as if you can actually see the characters. If you miss this one, your missing the best!

It Works Wonderfully But Don't Start Here... K?

If you've not discovered Rosenfelt before... sad. But don't discover him with this novel, good as it is. Nope, Andy Carpenter, Rosenfelt's lawyer/sleuth is too interesting to miss him developing right from the first in the series, the novel, Open and Shut. Plus, Grover Gardner's so engagingly captured this character and the wry Rosenfelt humor that it will be a pity if you miss what's come before. My recommendation...read Play Dead... but not until after you've enjoyed Open and Shut and the second in this series, First Degree. Maximize your pleasure. I did and now I'm off to find and download the next Rosenfelt novel. Wheeee!

Andy Carpenter and friends are the best

Love the whole series. Love all of them. Good writing, good mysteries, great characters, good dogs - perfect package. Grover Gardner is so right on for this series I can't come up with enough superlatives - I would have hated to have my favorite mysteries ruined by someone who doesn't get it - Gardner has won my heart by putting across the stories and people beautifully. How many series I can't listen to because of the reader, I hate to say - but this time it's a package to be cherished. We listen to them more than once - just love to hear the words and the voice.

I have added Rosenfelt to my top 5 list

I like this author because he uses humor and intelligence in his stories. I like the dog, Tara and his animal lover side. There are always multiple focal points in his stories that make things fast paced and interesting. The concept of a lawyer who is independently wealthy and only takes cases that touch his heartstrings puts him in a class of his own. I hope the author keeps the stories coming!
