Publisher's summary

In the course of her everyday work, career-driven assistant district attorney Nina Frost prosecutes child molesters and works determinedly to ensure that a legal system with too many loopholes keeps these criminals behind bars. But when her own five-year-old son, Nathaniel, is traumatized by a sexual assault, Nina and her husband, Caleb, a quiet and methodical stone mason, are shattered, ripped apart by an enraging sense of helplessness in the face of a futile justice system that Nina knows all too well.

In a heartbeat, Nina's absolute truths and convictions are turned upside down, and she hurtles toward a plan to exact her own justice for her son - no matter the consequence, whatever the sacrifice.

Not her best

I do not think this is Picoult's best book. I ALMOST stopped listening to it after the first couple of hours. What didn't I like? It spent way too much time at the beginning talking about what the mother was thinking about the terrible situation. But most of all, the main character, the mother, just wasn't very likeable to me. I really didn't like her, I didn't like how she reacted to things, she seemed selfish and at times her decisions didn't even make sense. Quite a few times I would think, "I can't believe you are acting like that." I also thought some of the situations were a bit too extreme and unbelievable. I did listen to the end just to find out what happened.

Just ok

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I can't say I hated it, it was entertaining and there were times I didn't want to stop listening, but it was far from My sister's keeper. I've enjoyed Picoult's books, although MSK and House rules were my favorites. It wasn't realistic court room drama, at times making me think "really?? I doubt day times soaps would be that misleading". That being said, if you like love triangles, parental struggles and trying to walk a mile in another woman's shoes, you won't be wasting a credit.

If you’ve listened to books by Jodi Picoult before, how does this one compare?

It really doesn't and I've read/listened to several.

Do you think Perfect Match needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

uhh, nope.

Any additional comments?

Go for My sister's keeper, House rules or even nineteen minutes before this one.

Difficult topic of child sexual abuse well done

Assistant district attorney Nina Frost deals mostly with child sexual abuse cases. She and her stone mason husband Caleb find that her 5 year old son Nathanial has been raped. Nathanial will not talk at all. PERFECT MATCH, set in Maine, is about Nina's search for retribution and presents a case where an absolutely certain DNA match of blood and semen identifies the wrong man as the rapist. The novel has realistic characters, multiple plot twists, and intense suspense. The three person narrating team does a great job.

How far would you go to protect your child?

That's the question asked in this book. A riveting read, I didn't want to stop listening! The narration was very good, I always prefer books done with multiple readers rather than one person doing all the voices. There is a predictable turn in this book that I saw coming, but then BAM! She hit us with something completely unexpected. Even the ending was a surprise to me. I liked this very, very much.

Perfect Match was worth the credit

I think by listening to the Storyteller first is what made me give this book 4 out of 5 stars. It was quite as good as Storyteller but it was a good listen. Jodi Picoult is consistent in her writing and I feel it was worth the credit used to obtain this book.

Not worth your time

What would have made Perfect Match better?

I believe the main character, Nina should have been more portrayed as deranged psychopath with ocd...it would then be more understandable as to why she acted the way she did. I personally had a hard time following her reasoning and motivations.

Has Perfect Match turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. I usually like Picoult's books but would not have spent a credit if I knew more of the story line.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Perfect Match?

Anything involving Nina and her OCD tendencies.

Any additional comments?

Yuck.

Absolute Waste of Money

What would have made Perfect Match better?

Nothing.

What could Jodi Picoult have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Never have written it in the first place.

What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?

Everything.

What character would you cut from Perfect Match?

All of them.

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed Picoult's My Sister's Keeper, so I was extremely disappointed in this absolute disgrace of a novel. The plot is predictable and therefore boring, it was impossible to relate to the characters, and the main character's actions are so unbelievably stupid as to make her absurd. Even after all this, I might have upped my rating of Perfect Match by a star if they had at least chosen a decent narrator to read it. As it stands, the voice of the main character is so simpering as to be insufferable. Bottom line, don't waste your money.

Well written and well read...

This is the second book I've listened to by Jodi, and she is quickly becoming a favorite author. Her stories draw you in, and you feel the emotions, the drama and suspense. I also love how her stories are complete, they finish without leaving questions in your mind, a sense that you've gotten to a conclusion.

superb read

Outstanding story, I couldn't put it down. Genius writing. She makes you question your own morals/values. What would I do if faced with the same situation.
