Publisher's summary

A twisted young medical student kidnaps the girl of his dreams and embarks on a dark and delirious road trip across Brazil in the English-language debut of Brazil's most celebrated young crime writer.

Teo Avelar is a loner. He lives with his paraplegic mother and her dog in Rio de Janeiro, he doesn't have many friends, and the only time he feels honest human emotion is in the presence of his medical school cadaver - that is, until he meets Clarice. She's almost his exact opposite: exotic, spontaneous, unafraid to speak her mind. An aspiring screenwriter, she's working on a screenplay called Perfect Days about three friends who go on a road trip across Brazil in search of romance. Teo is obsessed. He begins to stalk her, first following her to her university, then to her home, and when she ultimately rejects him, he kidnaps her, and they embark upon their very own twisted odyssey across Brazil, tracing the same route outlined in her screenplay.

Through it all, Teo is certain that time is all he needs to prove to Clarice that they are made for each other, that time is all he needs to make her fall in love with him. But as the journey progresses, he digs himself deeper and deeper into a pit that he can't get out of, stopping at nothing to ensure that no one gets in the way of their life together.

Both tense and lurid, and brimming with suspense from the very first page, Perfect Days is a psychological thriller in the vein of Patricia Highsmith's The Talented Mr. Ripley - a chilling journey in the passenger seat with a psychopath, and the English-language debut of one of Brazil's most deliciously dark young writers.

Reminded me of You

Great read. The inner thoughts of a delusional obsessed psycho really reminded me of the show You. The writing and twists were great.

Truly disturbing

It takes a lot for me to really be disturbed by a book and so far this one takes the cake. I think it’s because the perspective is from the villains point of view. There were a few moments where the narration made me giggle when he did a female voice but it didn’t detract from the story. I really enjoyed it!

AN EXTREMELY PLEASANT SURPRISE

Purchasing this was a risk, as I never heard anything about this Author's work. But the synopsis caught my interest and the risk payed off in spades. The Story was very good... VERY dark, but very good. The character of Teo was written very well and his Psychotic personality was consistent throughout. I HATED him as if he was a real person LONG after the book was over. It's not for me faint of heart. It's dark subject material and the plot only gets MORE disturbing the further you get in the story. My heart broke for that poor Woman, and just couldn't wrap my head around just how far one a person's delusions can go. I thought the Narrator did an amazing job with all characters but especially Teo. It would have been too easy to overact as that Psycho, but he maintained an even, rational pitch that made it all the more disturbing because it conveyed just how clueless this guy remained regarding his own actions.
It was a quick listen that didn't lose my attention once yet I was surprised on more than one occasion to find that I was holding a ton of tension, as well as my breath waiting for certain scenes to play out. I really hope to see more of this Author's work in the future and highly recommend this to those who enjoy Dark Thrillers

Creepy

At first, the narrators voice was a bit off putting. After a while, I realized this book couldn’t have been narrated as well by anyone else. The story alluring with a lot of twists to keep the reader interested. I enjoyed it.

Gives very you vibes

If you were enjoyed the hit Netflix series you then you’ll probably really like this as well. It has some decent of twists and turns in the main characters are very hard to feel any kind of sympathy for so it even makes it a bit more interesting storyline was a bit predictable though.
