Publisher's summary

A deadly outbreak in Kenya. A conspiracy beyond imagination. And a race to save humanity in its darkest hour.

From A. G. Riddle, the worldwide best-selling author of The Atlantis Gene and Departure, comes a novel that will change everything you think you know about pandemics.

A hundred miles north of Alaska, an American Coast Guard vessel discovers a sunken submarine at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean. It has no national identification and doesn't match the records of any known vessel. Deep within, researchers find evidence of a scientific experiment that will alter our very understanding of the human race.

In Atlanta, Dr. Peyton Shaw is awakened by the phone call she has dreaded for years. As the CDC's leading epidemiologist, she's among the first responders to outbreaks around the world. It's a lonely and dangerous job, but it's her life - and she's good at it. This time she may have met her match. In Kenya, an Ebola-like pathogen has infected two Americans. One lies at death's door. With the clock ticking, Peyton assembles her team and joins personnel from the Kenyan Ministry of Health and the WHO. What they find in the remote village is beyond their worst fears. As she traces the origin of the pathogen, Peyton begins to believe that there is more to this outbreak - that it may be merely the opening act in a conspiracy with far-reaching consequences.

In Berlin, Desmond Hughes awakens in a hotel room with no memory of how he got there or who he is. On the floor he finds a dead security guard from an international pharmaceutical company. His only clue leads him to Peyton Shaw - a woman who seems to know him but refuses to tell him how. With the police searching the city for him, Desmond desperately tries to piece together what happened to him. To his shock and horror, he learns that he may be involved in causing the outbreak - and could hold the only key to stopping it.

As the pathogen spreads around the world, Peyton and Desmond race to unravel the conspiracy behind the pandemic - and uncover secrets some want to keep buried.

Please End. I ended it with 15 mins left!

80% of book excellent. Last 20% was impossible made possible way to much coincidental events. Ending so unbearable and unreachable i pulled the plug with 15 mins left.

I'm Hooked! ⚓️

Started out a bit slow...but not for long. Would have stayed up all night had I been "reading" it. Instead up early & listening immediately- throughout the house all morning! Can't wait till October for Genome.

Hope the second entry in the trilogy is better

Would you try another book from A. G. Riddle and/or Edoardo Ballerini?

Absolutely

What could A. G. Riddle have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Way too many coincidences, I know it is science fiction, but really? The family stuff was laugh out loud absurd.

Have you listened to any of Edoardo Ballerini’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not sure, but I thought he was great.

Could you see Pandemic being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Maybe a soap opera.

Any additional comments?

The jury is out on this trilogy, but I will continue listening.

Good story, ending wasn't satisfying

Good story, the ending lacked a good conclusion. His books have the same pattern, good story but can't finish the series well.

Starts GREAT but couldn’t finish

I love this authors writing - and in the beginning I listened with rapt attention- but, as it went along the MANY coincidences (which may not be that I understand) weighed the book and dialog down. I had to stop listening - in the last 2 hrs. Way too fantastic to believe that I just lost interest.

I wanted to love it, but just didn’t.

Boring

I could not get into the story . There was to much back story and I could not tell what was happening with the main plot. I gave up half way and returned it.

A timely Read

A complex and well written story of Bio terror by a group with misguided philosophy and misuse of electronic advancements.

Too long.

Though I liked the premise it took too long to get to the guts of this plot. I enjoyed the charachters, and the way the narrator did the book. He was very talented and did dialogue and accents well.
I am not certain I will read or listen to the next in the series but this was interesting.
I didn't feel it was a good or satisfying ending it had too many unanswered questions. Understand that the book was only the first, but I am not sure that the next could live up to the hype of the premise.

Medical thriller with little scifi

I don't like pandemics. In life, in books and movies. I listened to the book because I like the auther. It is written well, reading performance is very good. For now I'm not continuing to the second book, genome, because extinction subject bams me.
