Publisher's summary

When linguist Andrew Dennison is yanked from his bed by the Secret Service and taken to a top secret facility in the desert, he has no idea he's been brought there to translate the words of an ancient demon.

He joins pretty but cold veterinarian Sun Jones, eccentric molecular biologist Dr. Frank Belgium, and a hodge-podge of religious, military, and science personnel to try and figure out if the creature is, indeed, Satan.

But things quickly go bad, and very soon Andy isn't just fighting for his life, but the lives of everyone on earth…

Hellboy's alternate reality

Where does Origin rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Been a fan of J.A. Konrath for a while and this is now one of my favorites.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bub. There are only a few characters in the book and while Andy and Sun are good protagonists, I really enjoyed Bub. I didn't root for him but thoroughly enjoyed him.

What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?

I liked how he did different voices for each character but really enjoyed his Bub performance.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense didn't find Hellboy this time.

Any additional comments?

Use the credit. It's worth it.

Fantastic idea for a book! Technically lacking.

What did you like best about Origin? What did you like least?

The concept was great and the tie in with historic events entertaining.

Would you recommend Origin to your friends? Why or why not?

Sure. Just don't go into it thinking it's a blockbuster.

Do you think Origin needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I don't think a follow up would be quite as interesting as the novel first idea.

Any additional comments?

People this intelligent would have done things somewhat differently in my opinion. If they're the best in their fields, more experimentation would have been conducted to ascertain the demon's weaknesses. It's not like they had decades to figure it out. Wait, they did.

the devil is in the details

Really enjoyed the book; interesting slant on how evil entered the world in a real way; interesting story of redemption from past mistakes; good narration as well

A liitle predicable, but not bad,

Narrator did a great job, but the story has a few holes and is predicable. Not for everyone.

Great listen

It took me a minute to get with the story being read by the narrator because I had listened to him on another series and I kept losing the story. 30 minutes in I was totally in it. This was a nice bit of fiction fantasy.

...and Bub's your uncle

Read it straight through w/ only a recess for sleep... Yeah, the premise is a little loose, but the action and pace are addictive... Love those moments where you say to yourself "this won't end well", then the narrative remarks on the same thing;). Quirky and funny, even w/ the gore and violence... In fact those might be some of the more humorous instances... Some really good characters, and they're all a little, or a lot, broken, but even if they are a bit thin, it's because that's the type of ppl the story needed and intended them to be... Bub's a delicious monster/villain, and Andy, Sun, and less so the microbiologist are solid heroes... If you want serious and technical you might not like it so much, but if you want a fun, disengage mind experience, w/ some thrilss to go along w/ the laughs you'll eat this one up... Got it on a 2 for 1 sale and it's worth twice the price... Only complaint is that the story ended in a place I expected a foolowup, but don't see any...

Enjoyable story; Excellent Narrator

Would you listen to Origin again? Why?

Yes, simply because the narrator was phenomenal. If I could search by narrator, I absolutely would.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot was interesting. Of course, there was a decent predictability factor, but I still enjoyed the story very much. I have become very annoyed with stories which throw men and women together, and it is child's play to pick out which beautiful person will end up with whom. Although we can guess from the introduction of Sun to Andy that this will be our hero and heroine, the other characters and the story make the romantic element tolerable. No gag reflex ensued.

What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?

Wow! The man must be possessed! There was a different voice for each character and never a slip up. The female character's voice didn't make me want to roll my eyes, either. I could listen to Luke Daniels read all day!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Holy Sheep!

Needs a sequel, not a universe.

Great idea but ends as if there’s a sequel and there isn’t. Just a shared universe with other books. For someone with such creativity, I find it hard to imagine the author can’t handle the task.
