Publisher's summary

Hauling cow carcasses through a freezing warehouse isn't Kevin Davenport's idea of summer fun. But it's not his first crappy job. And with tuition due and his widowed mom strapped for cash, he's in no position to turn down good pay. But there's more than meatpacking happening at Kosher World Meat Factory. And the truth isn't quite so – well - kosher. Turns out the business is a front for a criminal syndicate. While working at the corrupt meat factory, Kevin discovers who killed his father, and now all bets are off. Kevin finally has the chance to settle the score, and he'll tackle any job - club fighting, bookmaking, even drug dealing - to earn his revenge. But can he do it without becoming the very thing he's trying to destroy? Or, God forbid, flunking out of school? The Sopranos meets Animal House in this darkly comic coming-of-age novel about the price of vengeance - and the burden of truth.

OK, but completely unbelievable

Not the best story. There were times when the story picked up, but overall not very captivating. It was pretty much predictable.

book was amazing. took a while to finish while at work. narrators voice smooth and steady. would listen so long it would lull me to sleep. that was mainly due to lack of sleep at work, working 80+ hours a week. but still amazing way to pass time. and help lull to sleep at end of day long as I set it for 10 mind sleep and set a bookmark to come back to

fun listen, fast paced

I listen while I work and I know when hours have passed and I didn't notice the time go by its a winner for me. Kinda reminds me of the writing style of Joseph Finder & Brad Meltzer & Harlan Coben.
Totally unbelievable but I really didn't care. Hopefully, more books by the author will be added. I will keep checking his author page.
The narrator was awesome. No matter the book I always listen @ 1.25 speed.
I follow the reviewer, Shelly, from Raleigh NC. I'm glad I read her detailed review and got the book.

Nonstop entertainment!

This book just seemed to fly by. I started listening and there was not a single dull moment. There is one scene in the beginning that was a little silly and you might want to quit right there , don't!
The publisher's summary gives a pretty bare bones outline to this book.
When Kevin Davenport was a 10 year old boy, he saw a car plow into his district attorney father and younger sister, the car kept going. Both died.
As he gets older he get a scholarship to a private school. He makes wealthy friends. One in particular helps him out later on with jobs so he can pay his way through college. While working at a kosher meat packing company he discovers the one man he was especially close, whose son is his best friend, is part of the mob. He's also the man responsible for his father's murder, it was not a hit and run after all.
Kevin decides to avenge his father and sister's murder and comes up with a complex but very entertaining plot.
The sarcasm overflows.
Some schemes may seem implausible but they are certainly entertaining.

Great job

Good thriller, good characters and fine narrator. Pacing tight and engaging. Yes, some of the plot is a tad improbable, but hey, I was along for the ride. Will look for more by Ben Lieberman. Right now, this is it.

"Shouldn't Have Paused!"

What did you like best about Odd Jobs? What did you like least?

This had a good outline/suspense and if you listen on the new 1.25x speed, you get the impact author intended.

Would you recommend Odd Jobs to your friends? Why or why not?

This was worth the listening time, but this author is not for me, maybe a bit too ethic in his story line for me. I purchased due to the reader who did a great job.

Have you listened to any of Will Damron’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my second listen from W.D.. He does a terrific read on Tiffany Snow, Kade's Turn. Yum! I have added him to my reader list which includes: Jonathan Davis, Sandra Brown's Mean Streak, Scott Brick, anything, and of course the great Victor Slezak, Sandra Brown novels.

Was Odd Jobs worth the listening time?

It started out well, but if this had a bit better editing, the fast pace of the beginning could have been perpetuated.

You do not need to believe it to enjoy it!

The plot of Odd Jobs is wildly incredible and entertaining as it chronicles the life in the first person of Kevin Davenport for approximately 15 years from age 10 when his prosecutor dad and younger sister are murdered by a mob boss and his mom fall into deep depression. The novel is very fast moving and features characters that are so vivid they jump off the page. It's a story of vengeance and retribution while also being light and fun. Will Damron narrates.
