Publisher's summary

Lying face down on the floor with a gun to the back of his head is where Alex McKnight finds himself after a game of cards turns into a professional heist at the home of local developer Win Vargas. When the dust settles, McKnight is one of Police Chief Roy Maven's lead suspects. Worse, Vargas' own sense of vigilante justice has targeted the former private eye as well, and the brash millionaire may be responsible for the sudden disappearance of Alex's best friend, Jackie. Now, with officials pointed in the wrong direction and his closest allies either missing or in jail, Alex knows he is the only one who can uncover the truth. But McKnight can't possibly know how dark this conspiracy truly is - or how close to guilt he actually stands.

The value of friendship

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I found it to be a book that relates well to memories and values that follow us throughout our lives...no thought shifte or paradigms , just everyday emotional stability.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Scotsman, friend of 50+years, but it's a toss up between him and the main character.

What about Nick Sullivan’s performance did you like?

I really enjoyed the matter of fact style of the author and reader, it was like the captures the essence of each other in the story

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There are many places throughout the story I found myself relating to the commentary in the book, and I laughed out loud. The human response in this book makes you feel that you may have met some of these guys in your life.

Any additional comments?

A well written and read book, hope you enjoy it, there aren't a whole lot of modern books that satisfy you when the final word is read. This one for me, was one I enjoyed that much

Book 4 of many more. Hopefully

I love this series. Nick Sullivan is one of the best. I seem to attracted to these Midwest authors though, so take that with a grain of salt. Not sure I've heard a bad John Sandford or William Kent Krueger novel.

Loved it. Kept me interested. Need more by same author! Felt bad about ending. Loved the first little dog!

Don’t bother.

Alex McKnight is the dumbest ex-cop and former PI. I made it only half way through before calling it quits. And I was hoping for most of it that someone, anyone, would kill him. I needed to be able to invest in this character but he is so unlikeable (as are a lot of the characters). Such a disappointment.
