Publisher's summary

A young woman lies dead, strangled by a killer still prowling the sweltering, run-down neighborhood. The young wife of a police lieutenant receives threatening phone calls; the precinct's patrol cars are sabotaged; even the puppies the officers have adopted as mascots are savagely slain.

It looks like there's a psycho on the loose with a vendetta against the cops. And then the widow of a precinct cop is found horribly murdered. The signature of the first crime is on this one. But a deadly new element has been added - another murderer is imitating the first one's methods.

Great Narrator!

What did you love best about Night Watch?

The grittiness of it, which the narrator did a really good job of bringing out

What was one of the most memorable moments of Night Watch?

The parts where it was the criminal talking

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the murder scenes, frankly. I know that's sick. But I liked it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Too long for that

Any additional comments?

Great narrator. right for this sort of work. But his equipment is not good, which was a problem, to be honest.

Night Watch Rocks!

Would you listen to Night Watch again? Why?

Yes, it was a complex story with memorable characters and a great performance by the narrator.

What other book might you compare Night Watch to and why?

Night Watch is like a cross between Faye Kellerman's "Street Dreams" and the movie "Police Academy." It has all the action and thrill of chasing a serial killer, but it is funny. Packer Lindt is leading a group of screw-up cops and must find a serial sex killer who is targeting his neighborhood. All this while trying to navigate his role as a new husband and father.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene is either when Packer goes through and edits the police reports because they are unreadable, or when Officer Yount hands Packer a toilet paper roll because a citizens gave it to them. The officer asks what to do with it, and Packer tells him to file it.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Underdogs battling evil.

Any additional comments?

There is no graphic sex, but this story is about catching a serial rapist/murderer so there are adult scenes and adult material. Excellent audio book, especially if you like gritty action thrillers.

A Bit Too Much Going On For One Book I Got Lost

Night Watch struck me as a typical police detective book. There was a lot going on and at times I had trouble following. I think I would have preferred a more streamlined plot with less of the subplots and details that, to me, didn't really add to the story.

I'm not sure what era or time the setting was. It definitely felt dated – not that that is a bad thing – and certainly not in the 21st-century.

Performance: This is the second book I've listen to that Adam Zens has performed. My personal preference is for fast-moving narration, so I usually listen to my books at 2X speed. I did this that with this one and enjoyed the performance. I'm not sure why the negative reviews. I thought Zens did a good job!

Notes: Violence
Rating: R if it were in a movie theater,

I enjoy leaving reviews, as I know that I read the reviews of others before I purchase a book. If you found my review helpful in your decision about this book, would you please select "yes" directly below this review? Thank you so much.

Please consider "following me" here on Audible.com. I purchase a lot of books by authors that I am faithful to and well known names. I also have the unique opportunity to review books from lesser known/new authors in all genres. Most of these books are not something that I would not pick up on my own. I have been pleasantly surprised by new authors and great narrators.

A painful listen

The story was great...... The narrator, not so much. Mispronounced MANY simple words and over enunciated most others. The story kept me listening but I ended up buying the book to read the ending.

Narration is awful

Sounds like the guy is recording the audiobook on a mic connected to his laptop. Also there doesn’t seem to be any break for punctuation. Truly awful.

performance destroys olsens work

This reading and recording is of the poorest quality....no editor? the worst I've experienced from any audible selection. Storyline is the only thing compelling me to finish.
