Tense and builds steam

So happy early books were re-recorded with Richard Ferrone. He is Lucas Davenport and makes tyhe books so much better. Story builds with intensity throughout the book until the eventual ending. Good book I enjoyed it very much.

I'm Picky & Cranky & I Liked It A Bunch

Wuddaya want from a police recedural thriller? It's here. Sandfrord was very good when he wrote this one. Which means that Lucas Davenport holds up as a rich, macho, intelligent cop/detective. If you read for more entertainment than TV or the movies are generally giving out.... Read this. If you want War And Peace... I see that it's on sale. That's not what I wanted, this was... It did not disappoint.

I enjoyed this.....

These are never brain surgery but it's fun to see the way Lucas and his crew works and there is always a pretty good degree of tension. Lucas tends to be kind of a dog but a smart one. This one makes me wonder if he's growing up. Have to wait and see. I'm sure I'll get more, I just wished I wasn't going to have to switch to Abridged if I want to listen to some of them. I really don't want abridged......

Like the narrator. He works well with the characters. I'm glad he does the next two unabridged ones.

Night Prey is a Thriller

A single killer rarely creates as much mayhem as Koop. As Davenport moves in tension rises to OMG moments. Great thriller!

Author John Sandford continues with his recipe!

The author's recipe is set up an intelligent and devious serial killer who is becoming more brazen, throw in cop Lucas Davenport and his team who just miss catching the serial killer again and again with the situation becoming more and more tense, increase the action and the suspense to an almost unbearable intensity, and then catch/kill the serial killer just as he is striking again. The recipe works; it certainly keeps me reading the novels in the Lucas Davenport series! This is my favorite of the first six books in the series, but it still does not earn 5 stars. 4 stars is plenty good enough to keep me interested.

finishing up on Clara Rinker

I enjoyed this one best of all because it finished Clara Rinker. I was surprised on the ending but if you know the ending what is the point in reading the story anyway. I am however disappointed that Naked Prey is not in the list to be read. Audible will have to take care to put it in their package.

Dreary and Hackneyed

Ugh! After reading Stephen King recommending "Buried Prey" in Entertainment Weekly," I chose this one because, frankly, it was cheaper. Well, not worth even the reduced price. This book takes itself SO seriously, with the monotonous droning narration of pseudo noir. The story is hopelessly dated (entrenched in identity politics of the mid-90's, with many comments about "the feminists" (watch out!)). And, when the author hits upon a phrase or description he likes, he does not hesitate to pound away at it until it's dry as dirt. So you'll hear many, many references to burning human flesh smelling like pork (and more pork) and the supposed charm of the female overbite. Finally, an early suspect in the crime is named "Junkie Doog." Hearing poor "Junkie" referenced again and again in the narrator's super-serious tone was at first hilarious and then just tedious. I mean, Junkie Doog? Could not finish listening to this one. All I can say is "Feh."

This one freaked me out a bit

Sometimes when I read these books I find it necessary to skip certain chapters from the villain's point of view due to the fact that I'm so freaked or grossed out by them. This was one of those books. It has a serial killer, stalkers, gore, creepy deaths... Some of the book's blur together and you don't remember the plot; I think this one's impossible to forget. If you are really sensitive to thrillers don't listen to this book at night.
